Music while smoking

Recommended Posts

I've been thinking about my hookah christening party as of recently and I was wondering what specific songs or bands would fit the mood around the pipe. I've got a few on a tentative list but not enough.
However, please don't suggest Sublime or Bob Marley. I'd rather not have to deal with my "rather traditional thinking" neighbours.

Woah! Probably not looking for Arabic? I've got some Arabic, Indian, and a bit of house music on the list already. Arash, Armand Van Helden, Cheb Khaled, Dhoom, Greg Howard, Hum Tum, Khakee, Paap, and Jimi Mistry to name most.
I want to feel like I'm sitting in a Hookah Lounge. That's what I'm looking for. If you could recommend a few songs or entire albums I would appreciate it.
And about the hip hop, I'll give it a dry run tonight. I've smoked enough that the feeling is forever ingrained into my memory. I must say though, I'm not much for hip hop in general but I will give it a go.

I checked out warren g and, although it is a mellow song, it doesn't flow with the smoke for me. Got some Amr Diab and more Cheb Khaled. Probably gonna be at this all night.

Yup, you've got the idea down. Pretty much anything that is chill music
would work best with hookah. One of my top choices would have to be
Jack Johnson. Legit lyrics, calm music with a nice flow.

Jack Johnson might seem a little cliche with todays "in crowd", but I ignore that sh*t and just listen to him.

I too listen to a majority of Rap/Hip hop but that doesn't mean I
dislike everything else. Other favs you can find under my hookah mix
include: Slightly Stoopid, Marley, Expendables, and a lot from The
Beatles.

Never tried looking for Arabic music. I should give it a try.

If you look into arabic music, look for a song by Cheb Khaled called Alech Taadi, very good song. It was actually featured in the movie The Fifth Element but was sadly left out of the soundtrack CD.

Oh jeez, how could I forget. Pink Floyd's The Wall. The entire album is amazing while smoking. I gained a new appreciation for that album at my first shisha session.

I just downloaded the song from the 5th element. I REMEMBER THAT SONG!
Its right when he's about to start running from the cops when Leelu
drops in his cab ;)

Good stuff. I don't know why I never thought about downloading more
Indian/Arabic music for when I'm smoking. I already downloaded about a
cd's worth on BearShare of this stuff and am really digging it. Good
show guys!

I used to do Arab mp3 downloads on the internet while smoking but I always get the wildest feeling listening to Jimmy Page & Robert Plant's No Quarter-Unleaded CD. Good , mellow beat while backed by Arab strings. The best of both worlds. Give it a shot. If you don't like it, I'll buy the cd from you, as I need a new one (only one).

I've got 25 mp3s on my player as of right now, giving them a listen through. I'll just plug the mp3 player into a set of speakers and let it play on the day of. That is, however, after The Wall has played through.

I like alot of different kind of music,I suggest you try Wyclef Jean, whats great about him is that his songs tells stories sometimes and he his very versatile, not until i sat down and listened to the whole cd was i able to appreciate it, his album Ecleftic is excellent because it has different style going from hip hop, to rock , acoustic guitar , reggea , slows ... all with wyclef's style. Listen to Diallo, song he wrote about the murder of an innocent "suspect" that was shot 41 times by 3 or 4 police officer, I also like his first cd, The Carnival , i suggest you get both...Wyclef is now amungst my pile of Best cds which include Sublime and Bob , of course.

Hi, I usually smoke with smll groups of friends in the evening after work or study so the music is not so upbeat, but i have found that "Cafe Del Mar" has always worked well with Hookah smoking, and if your looking for something more eastern then Naseer Shamma or Munir Bachir are the way to go. Neither will offend against your traditionally minded neighbours as the genre of music is relaxing and mostly instrumental.

It's not the music that our neighbours will be ranting about (I've tried to get them scared of us by playing the loudest, angriest metal we have).  It's the fact that they will think that we're smoking weed.

I smoke outside most often...where we are serenaded by the sounds of the great outdoors. You know, that peaceful mix of frogs, crickets, small furry creatures, and of course...the wild american automobile!
JD: I DO like that link to the Bahrainian music, thanks for posting that one.

I've got a really good suggestion for you

I found this CD called "Sahara lounge", put out by Putumayo world music.
Do a search in your favorite P2P for "Sahara lounge".  I
recommend the song called "Sharif", it's a really good one.  You
should DEFINITELY have this song at your party.

Another good CD is called "Buddha Bar". It's a two CD
set, one being slightly more upbeat and the other more mellow (though I think
they are both very relaxing).

Check those out, you will not be disappointed!
