Ocrap
I was cleaning my Amer today and I noticed something today that I didn't realize before. I put pressurized water down the hose port, and the water came out through only one of the two holes in the stem (I don't know what term to use here ). For some reason I used to think that the smoke went through both of the holes, but it turns out it only goes through the one closest to the hose port. Some people are probably thinking (Duhhhh!!!!). It was only my second time cleaning my Amer, and it's my first Egyptian (All of my others are Chinese). Just something that I thought was interesting. NoDeadBodies
does it have a purge valve (i just ordered an amer and havent gotten it...just curious)purge valve is a valve that clears smoke when you blow through it and shoots it out the stem
hookah hippie
The second hole is probably connected to the purge valve
Ocrap
Yes, it does have a purge valve. I realized that that is what the second hole is for. I'm glad that the hole for the hose port is bigger

stryet
Crazy. I guess that means I better run water through my purge valve too. Just smoked with coconut milk yesterday...have no idea what might've built up.
Social Smoke
The setup you have with the separate hose port and vent valve tubing is typical of most Egyptian hookahs and is one of their strongest functional points. Making the ports work separately allows you to clear the smoke chamber more effectively as compared to most modern hookahs and also allows you to fully clean the stem. These types of stems are much harder to replicate in an automated manufacturing system which is why the Chinese/modern hookahs have yet to catch on. Glottis2
I wouldn't get worried about cleaning the purge valve... I mean, stuff gets caught in there, but it's not part of the smoke path that you are inhaling / tasting. Unless you put your mouth up to the purge valve and suck, that is. Kae
I have a modern hookah, and mine has seperate holes for the purge valve and hose. However, it also has a third hole, in between the two, that I am still not sure what is for X]

Sonthert
This is the common chamber bell vs. the bell with individual tubes I'm always talking about. The individual tubes are easier to clean out and it allows you clear the smoke out of the jar where the common chamber doesn't. Common chambers are cheaper to make, since all bells are hollow...the only difference is two metal tubes or not...Kae, hate to tell ya, if you have three holes, there aren't tubes...its a common chamber.
