Allia22
If you've owned your KM for more than a few months, could you please check the color of the core? When I'd wash my hookah after I got it, I'd always get that green stuff to come out, and I'd assume it was oxidation. Well, it stopped doing that and for shits and giggles I looked at the color of my core, and it is now a typical grey metal color. Brass plating?!? Someone PLEASE tell me it's normal for brass to change to that color.Keep in mind that the hookah works as well as it ever has, I just feel like I've been lied to... SafeSearchOff
as far as I know, brass shouldnt change colors unless there is a dramatic chemical reaction taking place, which probably doesnt hold true for running water through the stem... seems too much trouble to try and rip you off by brass plating some other metal pipe, and then steel plating it again... stryet
I bought mine used, used it daily for about a month (I clean every 2 smokes) and it's still a nice brass color. I still get the green gunk though.
nestormakhno
Yeah, what is that green crap?
Allia22
I suspect it's oxidation mixed with the usual hookah gunk.
hookah hippie
You can scrap some of that green gunk off the sink and make jam
oggie505#2
let some CLR soak in it and see if that helps. I cleaned out my old college roomates pipe that had been sitting for a while, it was the only thing to get off my hard water stains in my base. Just let it soak for the time the bottle says then was it out. CLR works wonders for cleaning a hookah
FURsAKeN
The green color from brass is oxidation, brass being a non-ferrious metal. The green oxidation you see is normal for any brass that is untreated/coated when exposed to water or any other liquid. This oxidation is also refered to "Verti-Green" happens alot on brass valves that leak by on ships and copper-nickel systems. Its not going to hurt you but it can build up and cause reduced flow. I've been a welder/engineer for 6 years and this is prefectly normal for any non-ferrious metal. CLR can be harsh, be careful. It can also soften brass more then what it already is over time. Sonthert
Yeah, its the equivalent of copper rust. Copper corrosion protects it from more corrosion, whereas iron crumbles.Edit: I have really old brass pipes and they all look dark and grim. Realize, too, that the Amer has steel on the outside. If thats the one you're talking about. Edited August 27, 2007 by Sonthert
Alademuerte
Mine's an ol' brass one, and every rinse, which is pretty much after every use (almost), I always get the oxidation coming out.. Always wondered if it was harming me, but I figured that since it wasnt coming down into the base that I was fine...But I've had mine for like a year or so, used AT LEAST 5 times a week, and it still is oxidizing all the time, no color change.EDIT: But mine isnt a KM, I'm actually not sure what it is. MechAnt
I'm a trombone player and I can definitely tell you that brass sort of loses its typical look over time (in my case because of wearing down on the slide). The green shouldn't stop but that may be because you clean it so often that the brass doesnt have time to make the green.
