Germs In The Vase?

Recommended Posts

So I was talking to this hookah shop owner in DC and he was telling me all about how the vase is the most important part to clean. He went off extensively on how bad shisha bars are because they don't sterilize the vases and thats where the "germs" are. He specifically told me that the mouth piece and the hose aren't the problem, that its all these germs in the vase.

Anyone ever heard of that before? Took me by surprise. He was a bit aloof, but seems like he's ran these shops in DC for quite awhile.

what germs exactly, like the bacteria already present in the water, or possible mold that can grow?

i wash out my vase and clean it with epsom salt/ rubbing alcohol everytime it begins to smell.

The only thing I could think of is the flavoring/glycerine residue from the shisha sitting in the vase and getting moldy or something.

Vinegar is a good idea though.

i use vodka for the tips of the hoses, and soap and water for the glass. If you're going to use soap, be prepared to rinse the vase out a lot

i havent even thought about germs in the vase until i saw this thread Edited by Akkbar

I know that cleaning the vase on a regular basis is important, but I wouldn't say that it's the most important part and the part with the most germs. After all, the water is only a filter for the smoke, so it's not like you're drinking it. I don't know for sure, but I'd honestly say it's a little nastier to have dirty hoses that you put in your mouth, where the germs actually make it into your system. ew. clean your stuff.
