The reasoning is if no one breaks a rule, they can still get banned. And if you remember the drama from a few months ago, that shit was a mess and it all came from the admins. Vendored owned forums are retarded as hell, all it does is cause drama.

There you have it. Why couldn't a moderator have said this earlier? And how does this differ from Billy's version of the story, which I'm sure we're all too afraid to reiterate? Maybe we can point the finger at boomhauer and say that he broke a forum rule, but can we do that to Billy?

The problem is that this forum is made to seem like a place where people can freely discuss all (legal) things hookah related, as long as the conversation is civil, when in fact we're seeing that this is not the case. Granted, we are given a considerable amount of freedom to discuss matters that could potentially take business away from HK, but nonetheless, I'd rather see this forum more honestly presented as THE HOOKAH KINGS FORUM than have the vendor bias concealed behind the scenes the way it is now. A central concern of the moderation team on this forum has been to prevent vendors from underhandedly promoting their business -- as long as people know whether or not a member is affiliated with a specific vendor, they can make informed judgments and take what they say about their products with a grain of salt. Yet, not many people seem to know that this forum is owned and run by HK. It's close to being a public space, but ultimately it isn't. I can't even say these things without risking being silenced or banned, and it's even further out of the question to let the other members of this board know that there IS an alternative forum for discussion that will never have any of these issues (unless, of course, the admin decides to start up a business of his own.)

And by the way, I'm getting really sick of hearing the word drama used negatively. Why is anything even slightly more impassioned than complete apathy dismissed as being overly dramatic?

Did you honestly believe when you signed up that this was some magical place that was free and without advertising...like PBS? Somebody has to pay the bills. There is no such thing as a free lunch (Friedman). Just because there isn't an obvious agenda somewhere else doesn't mean there isn't one.

You know what. The one thought that struck me reading this thread?

There is a general opinion that most of my american brothers are a bit dim. Reading this thread appears to support such a theory.

When this forum was born I am sure it was not so that other companies could use it as a free roaming ground to gain a customer base. Where do you think PYH got 85% of his new customs from?

Personally I think that either companies should be allowed to purchase advertising space -or- there is a blanket
'fook off' to vendors in general. I think the rules surrounding vendors should be 100% crystal clear.

This issue has kicked off a number of times. Personally i couldn't care less - Its' not like PYH was a super-valued-fluffy-bunny-member.

To Boom - I got to know boom real well in chat. Funny guy and enjoyed my conversations with him. But he backed the wrong horse & came across as a bit of a 'fanboy'. Couple this when he lost it and, well, it happened. I'll still talk to Boom. Just not via HF.

This is just my take on it. Personally I don't think vendors should be allowed to use this as a grooming board for customers. Period.

Well, is what Sonthert said true or not? I don't see why we need to know much more than that the banning of PYH was a decision from HK -- a decision which is unlikely to have been made solely in the best interest of the community and its members, and which as far as we can tell has no rooting in the forum rules as laid out by the moderation team. After habituating us all to the constant public banning announcements, how can you not expect people to want to know what's happening when a vendor that is receiving very much attention from the members is suddenly banned for no disclosable reason? How can you expect them not to be suspicious and aggravated when after all the bannings that stressed with audacity "READ THE RULES, FOLLOW THE RULES" there comes one like this where the moderation is not only unwilling to discuss the reasons, but defensive to the point of insulting the intelligence of the members, telling them to shut up and leave if they take issue with what seems to be happening here? "What do you mean you don't like the president? You elected him! Well if you don't like him, leave the country!"

I think the reasons why people still come to this forum are pretty obvious. This forum is the one with the head-start -- it's larger and more active, and it's the one that gets the most attention from vendors. No offense to anyone, but many of the people here are too apathetic and self-serving to think about what kind of effect a place like this can have on our hobby, and thus have no motivation to form "dramatic" convictions about the quality of this resource. Just forget about it and smoke your hookah...


JD: I think it could be a good idea for vendors to have to purchase vendor accounts to use on the forum, as long as the $ goes to forum maintenance costs and stuff like that. I wonder what happened to the $15 I paid for my premium membership.... which... I no longer have....

But don't forget that even though vendors come here for their own benefit, consumers can end up benefitting from it too. Now I don't know anything about business or economics... is it a bad thing that we want to know where to buy stuff, and we want to know where to buy stuff for cheaper? As long as vendor participation in the forum is organized and overt, I'm fine with it, and it probably wouldn't hurt to have them spend a bit for the advertising opportunity afforded by their participation here.
