Hoe Do You Let Your Hookah Dry?do You Guys Wipe Down Or Let It Air Dry?

Recommended Posts

depends on how lazy I'm being. I'll either wipe it down or wash it, put it together, and leave. Nothing bad has happened yet so I guess either would be okay, as long as the water will dry. I'm sure staying wet for a long time is probably gona have something grow in it or something. Who knows. As long as you try a little it should be fine

Yup yup...I towel dry what can be reached...the rest is air dryed. Course I and others do this to probably avoid that rust possibility.

Same. Towel dry, then air dry the rest. I have one of those metal dishdrainers that I dry mine in, to keep it upright, so gravity helps, but I can keep the pieces seperate.

Air dry.

Make sure you don't leave charcoal ash in your tray (especially if wet from miscellaneous liquids) overnight...its extremely corrosive. Metals burn into oxides. Oxides are stronger bases than hydroxides which are the strongest bases that can exist in water, since hydrogen-hydroxide is water. So, when oxides are exposed to water, the water pulls those oxides into tons of hydroxides.

Thats where lye (re:"Fight Club") comes from in chemistry without a laboratory. Take ash, put it in water, boil or dry and collect the lye that is the salt at the bottom.

Personally I air dry. BUT.... A middle eastern friend of mine who's smoked hookahs her entire life says she has never once washed hers. She brushes, and brushes, and brushes it dry and then blows compressed air through it. THEORITICALLY it seems like it should work, but I've never given it a try. Her rationale is that water has minerals in it that will eventually erode and damage the pipe. However, she's not a fan of other liquids in her base and has never used anything but water. If you add milk, etc., that wouldn't work hygenically. At least I wouldn't think so.

OK, ew.

The stuff sticking to the pipe is probably the most corrosive thing in the washing system. Although, that idea about brushing dry isn't completely crazy...

I towel dry it to the best of my abilities, then air dry it with my wife's hair dryer at low heat. It's best to force dry with air if you live in a humid climate, due to bacteria and mold growth. It really can ruin a good stem and mainly the vase, already lost one vase to mold/bacteria. There is certain molds/bacti that is very resilient to mild cleaners and I am very hesitant to use any harsh cleaners in my hookah.

From personal experience; where I currently live the summers get very hot and humidity exceeds 98%. I had a vase grow mold spots after air drying it then stowing it for about 2 days. After I found the mold in it, I washed it out brushed it and the stem just in case with 420 cleaner along with a light anti-bacterial soap, and then rinsed completely. The wife and I got pretty sick after the first two sessions after that, and once we replaced the vase it all cleared.
