Revolutionary Ideas

I want to design something that heats the shisha well enough to smoke it, but without coal, so as to reduce the overall "toxins" present in teh smoke... not to mention a possibility to manage the heat with a simple dial or switch instead of having to buy more coals over and over again.

let me know how that goes... gotta say a lot of people have asked about this and I've never heard an idea that could even possibly be a practical solution

i don't have the money to explore my ideas right now... only problem i could think of is a lack of heat, but i think something that will work for that.... as far as cost... if it works i think i could manufacture a "burner" of sorts for around $20 a pop...

someone was designing this around nov. or dec. of last year i think. he was an electrical engineer and he made a device about the circumfrance of a bowl with cement, and wired the heating coils through it i guess sort of like toaster coils. he said the easy-set cement couldnt withstand the heat for him and he could get pre-cast rings but it was too expensive and no one invested in him so it fell through.

try something like that.

i'm not an electrical engineer.. just a broke college kid... i was thinking the heating element out of a blow dryer with some sort of thing to hold it on and move it with when it's time for clean up....

I was also thinking about ways to build a cooling system for the base... if i ever go deep into this, i could take my 175 dollar hookah up to about 600 dollars or so

Revolutionary! Visionary even! NOONE has EVER thought of that idea before. I'm floored. Amazed!

(OK, sorry for being an ass. I usually don't bust balls like that, but the idea gets tossed around here at least once per month. wink.gif Welcome to the forum. I promise I'm not usually this big of a jerk.)

way to be, ting...

if you can get this going, good for you, but i'm going to warn you, many have tried and none have succeeded, so just keep that in mind.

edit: wow, after reading that, i realized how much of an ass that made me sound like. Good luck with it though. Edited by leadpipecinch21

I also hate to rain on your parade, but i seriously doubt anything can be made that produces smoke as good or better than coals for cheap. Think about how hot it needs to get, how the temp raises when you take a hit with coals, how you'll power it - wall outlet or batteries?, how you'll control it- variable temp?, how it will actually sit on the hookah, etc. I mean, props to you if you end up doing it, but it seems like a lot of work for the average college student .
