Chemical Fix
I want to design something that heats the shisha well enough to smoke it, but without coal, so as to reduce the overall "toxins" present in teh smoke... not to mention a possibility to manage the heat with a simple dial or switch instead of having to buy more coals over and over again. The King
let me know how that goes... gotta say a lot of people have asked about this and I've never heard an idea that could even possibly be a practical solution

SafeSearchOff
someone was designing this around nov. or dec. of last year i think. he was an electrical engineer and he made a device about the circumfrance of a bowl with cement, and wired the heating coils through it i guess sort of like toaster coils. he said the easy-set cement couldnt withstand the heat for him and he could get pre-cast rings but it was too expensive and no one invested in him so it fell through.try something like that. Visionary even! NOONE has EVER thought of that idea before. I'm floored. Amazed!(OK, sorry for being an ass. I usually don't bust balls like that, but the idea gets tossed around here at least once per month. Welcome to the forum. I promise I'm not usually this big of a jerk.) leadpipecinch21
way to be, ting...if you can get this going, good for you, but i'm going to warn you, many have tried and none have succeeded, so just keep that in mind.edit: wow, after reading that, i realized how much of an ass that made me sound like. Good luck with it though. Edited August 27, 2007 by leadpipecinch21
OPR234
I also hate to rain on your parade, but i seriously doubt anything can be made that produces smoke as good or better than coals for cheap. Think about how hot it needs to get, how the temp raises when you take a hit with coals, how you'll power it - wall outlet or batteries?, how you'll control it- variable temp?, how it will actually sit on the hookah, etc. I mean, props to you if you end up doing it, but it seems like a lot of work for the average college student . hookah hippie
I believe that hookah-shisha.com came out with an idea similar to yours but with no avail as it is too hard to manage the heat
