How Does The Border Work?

Recommended Posts

So in the near future i am going overnight to the good old u.S of A for one night, and i was told it works that i can bring $250 worth of goods in duty free per two days or something?

anybody ever do any border shopping and knowledgeable in tax avoidance?

lol

I was wondering if their are any good stores stateside, that sell for like $10 a box of nakhla 250 g's or something

then i could stalk pile $250! worth and be tax free as well as shisha sufficient for a good year i would hope.. at least 5 months.

when it comes to taxfree tobacco, you must be outside of canada for 48 hours and you are only allowed the equivalent of one carton of cigarettes per person. im not sure how they would calculate shisha.

do a search on the CBPA (canada border patrol agency) website..

Just mail a bunch back to your friends and family as gifts...

But Chinamon pretty much hit the nail on the head... The other thing is it really will depend on WHERE you are going in the states if you want suggestions on places to shop... last time I checked, we were a pretty large country if you're going to be in Seattle it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to have suggestions for places to shop in New York or Philadelphia ;-D

Actually, be really careful with import, because there's a twenty-five-thousand-dollar fine for bringing any of the following:

1.) Plants
2.) Seeds
3.) Meat
4.) Animal products

They could consider the tobacco a plant. In terms of duties, check a website. These laws change all the time. What I know for sure is that you can import two cartons of cigarettes, two liters of alcohol, and five thousand dollars a head.

when i went on my honeymoon to mexico, i asked and got a sheet detailing whats what.
they have different allowances for cigarettes, cigars, 'loose' tobacco (i bought some pipe baccy down there), and tobacco sticks.
shisha counts as loose tobacco... keep that in mind. you can actually bring quite a bit back... sorry i dont have the exact figure.

Hello,

Be careful, Customs into Canada only allows 250 grams worth of tobacco no matter how much your limit is or how long you are out of the country.

I went for a day to the states and had 300 grams and was charged 20 bucks (cdn) for the 50 grams extra.

Here in Montreal, 250 grams of Nakhla tobacco goes for around 50 bucks, after duty.
