mushrat
Head, base or hose? You can use wet paper towel for an emergency grommet. Strapping tape can be used on the base, wind it around the base of the hookah untill its the thickness needed to seal it to the base.

On my first egyptian, paper towels were what I used on both the bowl and the stem. It works fine. As a matter of fact, when I was in Egypt, the hookah bars all used newspaper. I don't remember ever seeing any other stem/bowl sealing method.

hookah hippie
I personally use foil if I don't have working grommets
stryet
Most of the bars I go to use paper towels or linen cloths. Seems more authentic to me than a rubber grommet, and makes for easier cleanup when the juices drip.
hookahlife
Hey Purpose,We've had a lot of situation in the past where the grommets didn't fit, and as many of the other forum members have mentioned, we used foil in combination with a piece of paper towel to create an equally great seal as standard rubber grommets. In the case that your stem grommet doesn't fit (the part that connects the stem to the bowl) we recommend taking the grommet off, wrapping the area where the grommet fits with electrical tap and squeezing the grommet back on, this will usually help create that airtight seal, but be careful not to overdo it, especially with a thin base, as this may put too much stress on the base and crack it (speaking from experience). Hope this helps -EugeneP.S. 200th post!!! Yey!!!! We love the forum, the members, guests, and the unique topics it covers.
