Tangiers Is Seriously *&*&#%#*$ Me Off!

Recommended Posts

OK, so I got my Tangiers Juicy Peach yesterday...let it aclimate for 4 hours minimum and got my Tangiers Funnel bowl out...packed it just like everyone says they do..kinda too the top and a slightly hard packed shisha. I used 3 3kings halfs and 50-75 holes in the aluminum ranging from small to medium around the funneled area of the bowl.

I STILL get that frequin' ass tingle in my throat!!! After about 5 hits I had to stop and add a 10cent (3 straws) defuser and it still smoked like crap!

I actually like the flavor...it still has NOTHING on Layalina Peach though! After giving up, I half packed the bowl with Layalina peach over the Tangiers and it was excellent BUT only because I was basically smoking the Layalina first.

WHY, OH-WHY are soooo many people having problems with this product?? I can seriously see why some like it over Layalina though...because it does have a tobacco taste like cigarettes and if you are a cigarette smoker, this stuff would be heaven But I am not and I have given this brand too many tries now to give in.

Even the Tangiers packaging states "Having trouble smoking this"?...and there is a link or ? there...Hint, Hint!?

So, i basically read all the threads and tried 2 ways to smoke this stuff and still no good?

I am going to try a side by side (half and half of tangiers and layalina) bowl attempt later tonight but do not expect any solutions.

This stuff DOES knock you on your butt BUT who cares if it can't be smoked correctly or you have to baby the technique to a point that it is soooo frustrating?...

By reading all the posts it looks like there are 50/50 consumers here that do not have this problem...and this maybe just because they are daily smokers??...who knows, all I know is that I am totally bummed because this is SUPPOSED to be an excellent shisha and I have already spent too much time trying to figure out why sad.gif

I guess Layalina has won by a landslide again biggrin.gif

My 2 cents anyways.... Edited by frankenstein_666

slightly hard pack.. no!

just don't break it apart.. just plop it in the bowl and move it around until it fits right.. dont pack it in. if you pack it in then the airflow will be directed through the eeasiest route making it burn

pack the bowl high, like alittle above the rim, losely, you need to use a bit more tobacco, and less heat. Tangiers requires ALOT less heat, if its harsh take some heat off, if your using quicklites until your comfortable i recommend you break the bisquit into 4 pieces, and put them in the corners of the bowl, and they should be really small pieces...

Yeah, I actually did pack it pretty high to the foil and pretty thick. I did even us ONLY 3 halves of 3 kings...pretty small coal.

Someone should seriously teach a frequin' class on this shisha with Photos from start to finish!...Using ANY bowl obviously for a perfect smoke...it's just insane that you have to baby this shisha to smoke anything close to other brands.

3 halves is one half too much. I put 4 small, and I mean small, pieces along the edges of the dowl, 2 sets of holes around the outer part of the phunnel where there Shisha is, none anywhere else, and PACK it in to the top of the bowl. I've had no problems with serving it here at the bar and I've gotten soem bowls I'm smoking to last a day and a half.

Impatience and too much coal will ruin it every time.

oh hell yea.. what flavors do you got!!

Dude, I chucked my Blueberry and almost pissed on it too!...I was soooooo ticked off at this stuff. But that was like a month ago, so i decided to give it another try and JUST got a 250g of Juicy Peach from MN last night. I only smoked a small tangiers bowl of it and let it aclimate for 4 hours....it does have a great taste but totally not my style or patience.

It sucks because i can totally see its potential...and be a serious competition for other brands BUT not if the average smaoker can enjoy it....I am just really bummed today because I ordered the tangiers bowl and tangiers and now I am once again dissapointed in it.

I will be fine once Layalina takes over...AF is pretty insane too..love the flavors!

I honestly think smokers ONLY smoke Tangiers for the Buzz!

try this...

cut up a bunch of the juicy peach with a knife
mix in some layalina vanilla.. i usually do a 50/50 mix
stir

pack bowl (like you would with just layalina or your normal tobaccy), smoke. enjoy Edited by ASUSEAN1

pack using a fork. a small fork if you have, alot easier once eric showed me with a fork.

i pack it and put 3 fake jap coals in the middle of the funnel (small) and it hits like magic, don't have to move or worry about the coals ever.

I'm just another person who really wants to get Tangiers to work right but has yet to do it, despite following every tip that has been given. However, I recently got my first phunnel, and I will have to re-try again. I want to like it, damnit!

Uggh, the only thing that makes my experience bad, is what's happening now. Scattered Thunderstorms! My favorite.. dry.gif
Boosting the humidity, lowering the temperature, and now gusts of wind at 17 mph. Wonderful. well, i have to wait till tommorow to smoke some brambleberries. angry.gif
But yeah, do what Scoop ssid, it really is magic, with the coal placement.

3 halves is too much coal for Tangiers. One at the most, mostly hanging off the edge of the bowl if you keep it whole like I usually do. (Just don't want to mess with pieces.) Or as said before broken into three or four pieces way, WAY out on the edge of the bowl.

Hmm... we normally use a single 33mm (I think it's 33mm, the smaller Golden Coals) unbroken on our Tangiers. It is a large metal bowl (still waiting on my phunnel, should be here soon biggrin.gif ) and holds a good 30-40g of shisha. We just keep a 3rd of it hanging over the edge a little bit and rotate it every rotation of our circle. We usually have 3 people on one hookah and a rotation is about 5-10 minutes (depending on the smoker!). We have yet to burn our Tangiers either, and after one coal, about 45 minutes, we can salvage the bottom half of the bowl. The top usually is dry at this point, but not quite burnt.

Yeah, it works well, you just have to stay on top of it. It's usually easiest with a couple people smoking, or you just set it for every so many pass-offs. Good coal management can help a little with Tangiers tingling, just watch how much you are heating it. We also eschew any sort of wind cover for Tangiers, as this causes way too much heat to build up on top of the bowl.

Here is my setting up process:

Dirty Bowl (small)

Bowl after metal woolly

The remains of my Tangiers Watermelon/Passionfruit mix (hard to see, black container, not a lot of mix left)

Dip the bowl into the tray to get an initial amount

Picture of the oyster fork with more mix in the bowl than you can imagine

Use the flat part of the fork to even the mix from the inner circle outwards
