The King
Well, I was hopin to be going to college this spring or next fall, but now I don't know... My parents said they would pay tuition, but I'm not sure i can even afford room and board and its required a freshman lives on campus. So how the fuck do others pay for it? Its not even a real expensive school by any means. I would much rather get an apartment, but like i saidf they say its required to live on campus. But the dorms are like 4 grand for the semester of like 4 months of school, then I have to find somewhere to go for the summer... soi advice would be good from those of you who've done this
garykainz
meh, CU Boulder didn't throw a bitch fit when I didn't live on campus freshman year. In fact, they never said a word about it. I think most colleges will be pretty chill about it, and even if they aren't, you can always get out of it. They've got forms and stuff you can give them so you can live off campus.I think my experience might have been easier because we had like 5,500+ freshman in the year, so they were like, stuffing kids in closets and calling it a dorm. haha

MechAnt
Well, your housing is CHEAP!!!! My housing is 10,200 for the year. And to top it all off, my family can't afford my college cause I have two other sisters in college at the same time. Me at UC Santa Barbara ($25000), older sister at UC Berkeley ($25000), and my oldest sister at Columbia for grad school ($60000). My mom is the only working parent and she doesnt make near $110,000!!! But we can pull thru with a shit load of loans and some hard work.

OPR234
Student Loans. Most people wouldn't be going to college without them (myself included). Also, save up as much money as possible while you aren't going yet, having a little pocket change throughout the semester goes a long way, and things aren't as stressful with a few extra dollars to spend. ghostofdavid
Please be aware that if both your parents work, you won't get jack for scholarships and loans unless you are a 4.0 student. Since our United States government likes to punish good behaviour and since it likes to be a welfare state, the working class peoples are punished. I was never eligible for a loan/financial aid aside from scholastic rewards because both my parents work. We aren't rich. We're lower middle class. My dad owns his own business and on PAPER it looks like he has several thousand dollars... and I suppose in a way he does... in bobcat earth movers, work trucks, currently worked property, etc. We could not, as a family, afford to send me to school. However, my parents realized that I could not afford to SKIP going to school and co-signed on a loan (reluctantly). When I turned 23 or 24, I received my first ever financial aid. Huzzah.Things were slightly different for me, I think, than some because I went to a (fully accredited) Private University. Your parents, if they are willing, will have to co-sign on a loan for you. Speak with a bank. Search for good interest deals. Good luck with it, man.
Halon2
UNC is awesome, and rent in Greeley is dirt cheap. You could easily find an apartment for $250-$300/month, and if you rent a house with a couple people you'll probably pay less than that.If you live on campus, be aware that our dipshit res life nazis just banned smoking in the courtyards between dorms (where everybody used to smoke). It's a pretty cool college, tho. Very nice girl/guy ratio!TYLER
The King
QUOTE (oggie505#2 @ Sep 6 2007, 06:07 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>loans and scholarships/grants will pay for collegeMy gpa is pretty low... only reason I can get into college is ACT scores bringing that gpa/test score average up...So i don't think I'll be getting any scholarships as I stopped playing basketball and I was only alright to begin with. I guess I'll probably end up having to get some big loans... and trying to pay those off... I know I don't qualify for financial aid... both parents work, but are sending some money to older sublings, and raising 4 here at home. My dad still works in CO and has a residence there so I can get instate tuition though.
oggie505#2
Scholarships are not just for sports, hell there are ones if u have a pet turtle. I forget the website , but it lists all the scholarships, trust me there is one for everyone
Ace of Hearts
I have a scholarship that covers 75%.. its a Florida public school thing. But I'm taking outstudent loans.. I'll be about $10K deep when i get out which is still ahead of most. As for notbeing able to get a loan, that's surprising. I never needed a co-signer and have it linked to mystudent account and SunTrust checking account so they cover the 25% of my tuiton and directly depositthe run off into my checking account. Now is as good s any time to get a load because most defer interest until you graduate. And after that you can only make payments of $100 (which shouldn't be a problem when you start a full time job) . Athat rate you'll be paying for 20 years but its an option. My advice, and current situation, get the loans, get a part time job (preferably one with cash-in-hand at the end of a shift) and if you find a lil extra moneyto start paying off the loans slowly but early, it'll be find. All in all, you need a financial plan first..

Bev
Talk to the financial aid program, they'll probably have a nice work study job available where you can sleep for a few hours and get money to pay for board.
Hookah_Bob3
Student loans as well..Sallie Mae. My parents aren't paying for my school either, and I'm making a major investment to go where I go. It sucks, but hopefully it'll all work out for the best for all of us who have to pay our own ways through
Bryantos
Is it a community college? Thats pretty freaking expensive if it is.I go to a community college and it was $750ish for 11 credit hours and $350ish for books. We don't have to live on campus, so thats all I have to pay. Tati
ditto on the fastwebmoney is not going to fall on your lap, you have to work for it, beg for it, write essays for it, perform sexual favors for it...well, maybe not the last one...fill out the fafsa if its available in your area, go talk to the financial aid office at your school, they are usually cool about finding scholarships and loans/grants depending on your major and other stuff. At U of Michigan, we have a work-study program, where you can work in places like the dorm office, and the pay goes straight to paying tuition and room/board. You can also try to be an RA (resident advisor) in the dorms, you get free room/board, plus a stipend every 2 weeks (depending)You can also take a year off, and work for that year and make enough money to last you at least 2 semesters.good luck!!!
