Alademuerte
It wont light natural coals...I could be wrong, but I would place money that it doesnt have the power and heat to light naturals...
leadpipecinch21
for that price you can go to your local hardware store and grab 1) a propane torch kit and 2) an electric hot plate.

mushrat
I use one of those. They work fine actully. Get a pot or even better a small cast iron cauldron, put several finger coals in it, and just hit the whole mess with the torch. When you have several pieces all together they help build up heat faster and that gets them going a little faster. It does take longer than wih a blow torch or hotplate though. I keep one of those in my carrying case so i can use finger coals when I travel with it. I'll find a picture of the mini couldron I use. They are also called brazing torches in your local hardware store and cost about 15 bucks less. You can also go to a place for cooking supplies and ask for a creme broulle torch, same thing. Edited September 7, 2007 by mushrat
hookahlife
Hey all,Butane torches should be able to light the Natural coals, Im not sure how hot you have to get the naturals to light but I can tell you the temperature a Butane torch burns at is 1350 C (blue flame), which I believe is hoter than a propane torch. Dont know if that helps much... Regards,MikeHookah Life

MechAnt
Butane torches work decently well at lighting naturals but they eat gas like mad. They truly shine when using Japs. They can get one tab started in 3 seconds flat and you can blow on it to save some gas. I love my torch.
Glottis2
That would work alright for lighting naturals, but a propane torch from a hardware store would work better, for a cheaper price considering the tank capacity, although they are much bulkier. In any case, don't spend $35 on that when theres places like this http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3425
mushrat
dang, thats a nice price...wonder what shipping adds? Probably brings it up to what you can get one for at the hardware store...

mushrat
Look, folks, he's said outright, in the First post, that hotplates and torches were not an option. It sounds like he KNOWS they are btter, but also just can't have them. Why keep telling him to get the things he has already said he can't get?If your choices are quicklights of that little torch, then we make do with what we can get. I used a torch like that for 2 years and it CAN be done and while its a pain in the ass that takes loinger than it would some other way, its still beteer than a quick light. My $.

thomas
The bernzomatic propane torch starter kits should be common right? I've been looking them up online and it says my closest hardware stores dont have em.. how accurate would that be?
