htayel1
Well I'm on a college campus (in an apartment, not really a dorm) and am wondering how people smoke indoors in a room.....doesnt the smoke alarm set off? I have 4 sprinklers in my bedroom and wouldn't want everything to get wet (especially since I have a roomate and he has some pricey belongings).I'm sorry if this question sounds a bit noobish, but I really can't take the risk.Help is much appreciated. Thx in advance.
ASUSEAN1
you won;t set off the alarm.. don't even both putting something over becaus the new ones have things to detect tht. sprinklers don't go off if the alaarm goes off the sprinklers only go off if heat melts the little filament.. so smoke away

Braavos
Yeah, you should be fine smoking in a dorm. I would probably sit as far from the detector as possible and consider covering it if you're concerned, but you should be absolutely fine.
FURsAKeN
You should be fine, but just to be sure hit one of the spriks with a hammer.. just for good measure..
ahwahoo2006
If you're really worried about it, just make sure you have a fan blowing out the window.
Gaara
Two methods;1) Just open the smoke alarm and take out the battery (which is what we usually do). 2) Put a plastic cover tightly around the alarm.
Scheetz
Yes its possible. No you will not set off the sprinklers, they are only set off by extreme heat which pops the glass holding back the water pressure. Open window, turn on fan. Face fan towards window, blow smoke through the back of the fan so it blows out window. Only issue you will have is the smell. The RA will smell it before anything else. Tuck some towels underneath the door to block that up. If you were lucky like me, I was on the side which had the study attached. So I blocked off both doors which did a wonderful job. symptom CY
Don't do what Gaara said. Not only is it unnecessary, but it can actually get you in trouble -- I don't know if you're on campus property or not, but at least on most campuses you are not allowed to tamper with fire alarms. Same probably goes for many apartment complexes. Disabling or tampering with the alarms usually sends out a signal to your local safety HQ or whatever. Many of my friends have done this, only to wind up with campus safety at their door a few hours later. If you put the fan in your window properly, it's actually a good idea NOT to towel the door. If you're trying to move air out of your room, you need to be able to let fresh air into your room, right? As long as the fan is blowing air OUT of your room, you don't have to worry about air creeping out into the hallway from underneath your door. To test your ventilation, crack your door a little bit and turn on the fan -- the door should be pulled inwards from the negative pressure created by the fan. Also, feel around the cracks of your closed door when you've got the fan on -- you should feel a draft coming into your room from between the cracks. That's when you know you've got good ventilation

htayel1
Thx guys for the help. Definitenly calms me down a bit and now I'm more excited to get my hookah (probably Mya acrylic).
OPR234
I only smoked in my old dorm once... my fan setup sprayed ash everywhere... definitly not cool. The hardest part is lighting coals, unless you have quicklights. Also, the smell isn't anything to worry about, just say you sprayed some febreeze in the air of whatever scent youre smoking and don't let anyone see into your room. Stealth
We got lucky and had a totally cool RA. He actually smoked hookah too and a couple times we traded flavors. Ive always just opened a window and didnt even deal with a fan and no alarm has ever been set off.
