anddy
So I was about to set up the hookah and I grabbed my hose and just inhaled through it to see if there was still a taste in it (it wasn't attached to the hookah).Well when I inhaled, a bunch of crap went in my mouth. I felt it. It was like tiny bits of something. I tried to rub it off my tongue but I didn't see anything. I did it again, and sure enough more came off. I tried looking in the mirror but there was nothing on my tongue.I don't know if it was rust or just ash or what but it was disgusting. What do you think it was. Do hookah hoses usually get some kind of resin in the hoses? Should I wash it? Well, because I did. The hoses that come with the mya qt's are washable right?.....right? leadpipecinch21
well, anything that you smoke through picks up resin, so you're getting some of that in the hose. If you've washed your hose, or gotten water into it accidentally, there is a distinct possibility that there is rust...if i were you, i'd go and check out the how-to funhouse and make yourself a vinyl hose(i recommend this to everyone, now just you)...it'll be much better than any hose you can buy. olooko
If you hose contains metal, then that stuff is rust. Go grab some plastic hose and do a hose mod. When you cut up your old hose you'll see the rust. Just check out some of the pics that ppl post up when they take apart their old hose.

anddy
how do I know for sure if its rust? it was like sucking in tiny bits of sand. I kind of like the look of the leather hose more than a clear hose
Jubs
Yuck haha! I always make sure to blow through the hose before I even think about inhaling anything. I always give it about 5 good blow throughs after each session and again before I attach it to the hookah during setup.

anddy
hmm i was told the leather hoses that came with the qt are washable? man that sucks.. i just dont want to go and try to clear hose mod and find out that its not rusted when i tear it apart. i ran water through it then blew through it a bit, and i didnt taste any weird tastes. if it was rusted would i be able to taste something funky?? garykainz
if you want to be 100% sure it's rust, grab both ends of the hose and smack the hose part against the ground/a wall/etc and then blow out. if you see red clouds of crap, like I did, it's rust. Hence, I just bought a Nammor. I can't wait to get it!
anddy
... they come from inside the hose?? haha i didn't know that. I thought it was just a little metal part where the hose connects to the handle. So is there like a long metal wire spiraling inside or something? That would make sense because I always thought it was leather rolled up and bound with the wire on the outside, but something had to be inside to keep its form...EDIT: did it and nope. Nothing. And since I'm one of what my coworker calls those artsy fartsy types, I'm going to add beads to the knitted sections. When I've worked out the patterns, sewn them into place I'll take pictures. It's going to be a gorgeious looking pipe with the amazing draw and washability of Namoors.'Rani
leadpipecinch21
if you really want to have the leather look, you can always wrap the vinyl tubing in leather...just get some string and wrap it around the vinyl tubing, evenly, cover in leather, and then wrap thread tightly around the leather...same look, but 100% completely washable. hooky1742
i get the same problem with my hose all the time. Mine is washable (at least it says so on the handle) so i attach it to the end of a hosepipe and blast water through it under pressure. For the first few seconds an absolute load of black shite comes out, which is worrying. Im glad its stuck on the inside of the hose and not in my lungs Im guessing this is some kind of smoke residue or something. Its definitely not rust, or it would be a kinda red colour, right?Anyway, after a few seconds the water runs clear. After that i blow through the hose to dry the inside of it out, and then whirl it around for a while to kinda centrifuge the last bits of water out. It smokes fine after that. I have to do this before every session, otherwise I inhale all the crap and even after its all gone, it still makes the smoke taste foul. The wierdest thing is that if I do this cleaning procedure after a session, then start a new session a few days later i gotta do it again. Somehow the crap re-accumulates, even when its sat doing nothing. Dont ask me how, but it does (im not mad, honest!). It completely baffles me, in a way im kinda glad im not the only one with this problem!

leadpipecinch21
uh, hooky...that's definitely rust...think about it logically...you run water through metal, do a half assed job drying it, then let it sit. water+metal=rust, plain and simple. Cheese//
It's weird how people are so resistant to accept that their hoses are rusted.

But thankfully my friend said my plastic hose sucked so much that he drove me to the store and we made it together. It was awesome i love my new hose! anddy
Yeah so how do the plastic hoses smoke? The ones that aren't leather, just plastic, i think. Are they that bad? because I would think they would be better than a vinyl hose.
aldonb1
eh i get tiny particles but the amount i smoke out of it I am fairly sure it is just dried resin and tar. A good blow clears it right out. If you blow your hose and then it smokes fine, its probably just that. If you are having constant irritating particles just toss the hose and buy a new one. Personally i think the vinyls looks like crap. I understand that they function great but I just cant get over the way they look. I would say go get a Nammor they are pretty amazing. anddy
yeah the vinyl hoses just look a little too ghetto.. maybe its just me. And also, wouldn't it be too stiff or not light and flexible compared to a hookah hose? I think it would knock my QT over. The hookah hoses are light and really flexible. Vinyl hoses are not. olooko
You can use thinner plastics. You can even put a hose cover on the dang thing if you want to make it pretty. The thing about plastic hose is, rusting can't happen.
anddy
Yeah you got a point there. I probably will end up changing my hose out to a vinyl one. Does anyone know if the hoses are too stiff or anything for the hookah? how are they compared to a normal hookah hose (not talking about how they work, just the feel of them..)
