MechAnt
So, I'm attempting to make my MYA into a vinyl monster as per ookoloo's tutorial in the How-To section and I've hit a wall. I CAN'T RIP MY HOSE APART! I got the mouthpiece end off from the metal and what not and its ok but the other end, it refuses to seperate from the metal. In addition to that, the metal shim that is at the base of the pieces is pretty much stuck on because the glaze coating in wedged inbetween them and is very stubborn. Any ideas for fixes? And, yes, I'm plenty strong, its just incredibly stubborn.
olooko
If you want to keep the metal shim just use a bigger diameter hose and just attach it on to the shim. If you want to remove the shim get a big part of needle nose pliers and clamp on to the shim and yank. The glaze should give and the shim should come right off. Then attach a hose to the inner Al tube.I hope this helps.
Allia22
My problem is: aside from getting off my lazy bum and actually getting a vinyl hose, how do I detach that stupid coil? I tried yanking, but I'm not strong Edited September 12, 2007 by Allia22
oggie505#2
most of the metal shims in my myas are lose, just pull hard and eventually it will come off

leadpipecinch21
use a hair dryer or another heat source to melt the glue/glaze then pull the shim off...
OPR234
Try using a knife to scrape out as much of the glue shit as possible. Then try putting a screwdriver or some type pf prying tool into that inner shim and work on it that way. Or, take a decent sized drill bit and drill the mofo out. MechAnt
Finally got my hoses completely apart. A good night's sleep re-energized me and after 20 min of coaxing, the shims and coil finally gave way. Time to stop by Home Depot or OSH to get some Vinyl tubing. 3/8, 1/2, and then 5/8 correct? But are those measurements inside diameter or outside diameter? (I'm guessing that it doesnt matter much cause I'm just gonna be forcing it on anyway. MechAnt
Ahh beautiful! Works like a charm. Just went for the 3/8 to build up then the 1/2 for the body of the hose cause they didnt have 5/8 in stock. Still smokes like a dream.

First, after cleaning it, put the 3/8th (standard hose diameter). After that, the 1/2 thickness. THEN the 5/8. There is a progression from smallest to largest. You may need to work on your fractions There is a statistic tho that 4/3 people have problems with fractions.

leadpipecinch21
no, it just makes it so you can have a wide diameter hose...you can use 3/8 id hose tubing and have that fit snugly right over the end of the handle, but by using the progression you can use a thicker tubing.
