JakeB1322
So I've been trolling the forums for tips on getting Tangiers right. And it just does not work. I've tried literally everything I have read, and it just doesn't do anything. I got it to smoke well once, but that was it, I think I was using a wind screen made of foil that time, which I have read to not do.Ok, here goes. I have a Sahara smoke Bubble hookah. It has a small to medium clay bowl, it's shiny, so I assume it has been glazed. I only have the Orange soda Tangiers right now. I have been breaking up the shisha with my fingers and a fork. Packing the bowl a little past the top. I cover it using two layers of heavy duty foil. Then poking small holes all around the top, probably 30-50, using the small blade on my swiss army knife. I have the Japanese Canary easylite coals that say Golden Charcoal on the top from Hookah Company. I have tried using one off to the side, and also 3-4 small pieces around the edge. Neither makes a difference. If anybody has any suggestions, please please please help me out. I want to love this tobacco. It smells so good, and I heard so much good about it.My second question is, should I get a phunnel bowl, and if so, should I do the scalli mod. I've heard different things around here. Use a phunnel with no mod. Don't use a phunnel for Tangiers. Don't use a phunnel at all. What is the best configuration for this brand?
boulderkid303
Get a phunnel. A small if its just you or 2 people smoking.Learn how to pack the phunnel, and use alot of shisha. It always takes more or it wont smoke right.Tangiers is personally my favorite. I love it. Once you get the hang of it, its amazing!
ZenSilk
Yeah, you pretyt much need a phunnel for Tangiers. And make sure you acclimate for 4+ hours. And make sure you mix it so it's super juicy before you smoke. And try poking 2 rows of holes around the top of the shisha, and use this amount in golden coals..2 1/2 disc + 1 1/4 discs - so that's breaking one in half , putting those halves on, and then breaking another into 1/4's and putting one of those 1/4's on. Put the half's across from each other, and the 1/4 on one side (so all the coals are in a triangle shape), then, later, light up ONE MORE 1/4 and put it ON THE OTHER SIDE of where you put the first one.Or design your own method. Trial and error is what's best. And sometimes, if the shisha is burning too fast, poke holes in the foil so there is only one row as close to the edge of the rim of the bowl as possible. ANd dont place the coals directly over the holes. Tangiers smokes much better with Natural Coals (i suggest Starbuzz) , quicklites add their shitty flavor (but the Tangiers flavor overpowers it for the most part). And NEVER place coals directly over the center of the Phunnel, it will cause the smoke to be harsh. And also if needed, poke a hole in the middle over the phunnel so some oxegyn can get in, it'll make it a slight bit less harsh if it is too harsh. AND never smoke Tangiers on an empty stomach. It's impossible to stomach that much nicotine on your system without a prior meal. Have fun! I hope you can get it smoking spectacularly! Thx zen, I guess I'll be getting a phunnel soon. What is a good online shop to get one at, and should I do the scalli mod for it too?
iamscott06
I just got a scalli mod for my phunnel, and i posted a thread a little bit ago and people where telling me to smoke tangiers without the mod, but you can smoke other brands with the mod on. So far i'v smoked some Laylina with the mod and its awesome I use quicklights and i suspect once i get me some natural its going to get even better.. But if you smoke stuff other than tangiers and wanna try something new go for the mod.
OBY
I have never had problems with Tanjiers I only fill the bowl about half to 3 quarters and put foil and only put holes in the middle of the foil so the only holes are covered by the lit coal. Other than that I dunno why it always works...
JakeB1322
so i found these phunnels. should i go with this glass one from mnhookah, or should i go with a clay one from pimpyourhookah? Is glass really worth double the price?
ZenSilk
It's only double the price BECAUSE it's handmade glass. Im sure a ceramic phunnel is just the same, but not as pretty (some might say...)
JakeB1322
So I gave tangiers another shot earlier today. I read that somebody said to break it up with a fork. So I got one out, and ripped all the leaves apart, pretty fine. I only smoked for a little while before I got too messed up to smoke anymore, but I gotta say, I've never seen smoke like that. It was crazy. It blocked out the tv completely. It only went like that for a little while before the coals got too small. But I'll definately be lighting up that bowl again later. Also, I didn't push the tobacco down at all, I just placed it in there, filled it up above the top, and made sure to get the tobacco all around the edges of the bowl too. I think I may finally have a system down that works. If anybody has anymore suggestions to add to my newfound knowledge, please let me know. Also, I only have the Orange soda right now. I could barely taste it. I think while I was acclimating it, I accidentally left it open for way too long one time. Could that have anything to do with the diminished taste? Is there anything I can do to get it to taste more flavorful. Right now, if I didn't know I was smoking orange soda, I probably wouldn't even be able to guess the flavor, although it doesn't taste bad by any means.
