oly
Hey, I had been thinking of getting a hookah for quite a while when I came across this at an estate sale. Its about 2ft. tall and apears to be made of brass and wood. As you can see in the picture(If I can get it on) it doesnt have a hose, it has a 30 inch wooden pipe wound with copper.I would love to find out its age, origin, and value(there is a similar hookah at the estate sale) Any info is greatly apreciated[attachment=565:hookah_1.jpg]also, there were two handheld hookah's at the sale that were made of coconuts. Think I should grab one? Only $12 each.

guyt
Turkish hookahs usually have hoses that are like that. So that might answer your origin question.
Estariol
Yes it's definitely antique. Good looking little hookah that one. Lucky you. However, I disagree with guyt about its origin. The turkish were the first to actually design a flexible hose for hookahs as opposed to bamboo (or copper) rods. I would suggest that the rod design as seen on this hookah is more likely from Iran/Persia where you still find many rod-hookahs these days. The age: I have no idea. The value: probably more than they're asking. The origin is definitely the most easy to divine. Happy buying and admiring.

HookahCulture
Yeah I would buy those! Then the next thing is.... to clean or not to clean!I bet there's some drug residue in there. That one pictured is probably worth a few hundred $.I myself would NOT clean. Original patinas are worth a LOT.Looks like a trip to the Antiques Road Show for you!!

oly
Sorry it took me so long to get a pic. I ened up buying them all. According to the seller he got the coconut hookah while in India around 1967. He said they were used by the poor farmers over there...but I have my doubts. The orange and silver one has a black clay bowl on it and the base apears to be made of silver. Altogether they cost me $85. I'm pretty happy with my purchase : )[attachment=575:P1010005c.jpg]
joseph*
Those are amazing. That was an excellent buy. But they appear to be hookahs for looking at and not smoking out of.

Hookahs were invented in India, and the origenal indian hookahs were made with coconuts. Narghile comes from the persian word that means coconut.
