thomas
Today I got my new and first hookah ever, the Mya Vortex. The thing is beatiful but I dont know how it truly hits... I set up the hookah for the first time ever and headed down stairs. 30 minutes earlier, I put the base and stem into the fridge to cool it along with a jar of milk+ice+water, I did my research. So I set up the bowl and charcoal, the charcoal was a bit diffult as it was 33m 3kings and I tried breaking them in half which did not work too well.Skip a few minutes and im starting to smoke, at first, there was no smoke ( im thinking i put too much smoke or the foil sucked), then a little later the smoke got thicker. Now im in my living room doing this and laying back with my reclining sofa... and just as the smoke is getting really good, I feel like getting up to call my buddy. Well I push the recling thing back into the sofa , unaware that my hose was beneath the recliner, yanking the whole hookah off my table. My hookah falls off the table , the bowl breaks and everything spills. My charcoals fly in seperate directions, I was able to find the first one instantly but the second took me a good 15secs to find, it burned the carpet badly. Im in complete panic becuase I still live with my parents and a lot of shit is rushing through my mind. As of right now, 10:12pm, theyre coming home. I dont know what to say because im a good son , I never do anything bad, so I dont know what to tell them. Worst first time experience ever... On a lighter note, if even possible, I ordered a phunnel bowl to replace my broken one and got a 250g can of sweet melon starbuzz. garykainz
shit man. that sucks!one thing to do with carpet burns is actually "shave" them with a pocket knife (i haven't tried an actual razor...). that takes off the minor burnage, as well as most of the blackened parts. i've burned by buddy's carpet numerous times, and thats all we do. they're not too noticeable. Rani
It's not nearly as bad as you think if you happen to have even a small spare piece of carpet around. What you'll need to do is clip or shave the burned spots right down to the mesh. Then go to a fabric store and get fuseable webbing that comes either in sizeable sheets or in rolls for hems about 1/2" wide. You want webbing that fuses on BOTH sides. Cut a piece and put it in place, then take shaved clippings from your spare piece of carpet and arrange them on top of the fusable piece so that they blend into the surrounding carpet. Take a steam iron and a wet cloth. Put the wet cloth over the area you're repairing, then apply heat from the steam iron. Make sure you steam the hell out of it. You want really hot steam that will melt the fusable webbing under the carpet pieces. Pull off the cloth, CAREFULLY adjust any fibers you need to so it blends and let it dry. If you did it right even professional carpet cleaning won't harm it after that. No spare carpet? Cut away just a few fibers from the surrounding area. Go to a craft store and get wool or acrylic yarn in a matching color. You also want a half circle needle - like a bigger version of what doctor's use to do sutures. Use the needle to literally sew yarn into the mesh after you've clipped the burned area. Clip the top of the new yarn loops to match the surround carpet level and you're done.Is this going to get you out of hock with your parents? Probably not, but as they're chasing you to your room you can waive these printed instructions at them and yell, "wait, wait, don't kill me..... I know how to fix it!" 'RaniI just hate getting into trouble with them. I rarely do anything wrong with them knowing, and my dad is really arrogant. I offered to pay $60 for a professional at Lowes to come fix it, he called me retarded and an idiot for what I did over and over. Im of asian descent so some things dont work as well as I would hope. Thanks for the instructions though! Edited September 15, 2007 by thomas
MechAnt
Ahh, yes. The overbearing asian parents. I'm Korean myself and my parents haven't lightened up until recently because it JUST hit them that I'm leaving for college next Saturday. No worries tho. Take it like a man and be straight up with them.

My dad broke mine and pretty much called me alot of things that I would get banned for if I mentioned, and then proceeded to pretty much call me a failure. All of that simply because I bought a hookah. He wouldn't even listen to me when I tried to explain what it was to him. All he would say is "I know what you kids smoke these days." When I left my friends house the other day, he smelled smoke on me from a friend of mine smoking a cigar, and he said "How much of that shit did you just smoke?"I can relate, because I never do anything wrong, really. guyt
What always amazed me is how parents get more pissed at the kids who rarely screw up than at the kids who mess up regularly.
Johnny_D
Hmm.You guys should remember that It's this guy's parents house. There are allowed to be pissed off. They are well within there rights to have a bloody good moan and complain.Sometimes you lot seem to forget that parents are people too - and a lot of them would have worked there guts out to pay for the houses you live in. /parentmodeHowever the guy did offer to pay to get it sorted - Good man. But i'd still be pissed. And you'd be smoking your hookah outside from now on JD - Parent.

My parents love me a little too much, though, and protect me from alot of stuff. Even if it is out of love, it can be really annoying. Its all completly understandable, though.Maybe its just me, but its really hard for me to get mad over an accident. I could understand if you purposely damaged the rug, but I don't think theres need to fly off the handle over such a small mistake. My girlfriend gets grounded for simple little mistakes she made like putting a dish in the wrong spot, and her mom flies off the handle if she can't find it. Its no dish of special importance, either. Just a dish.Hope it all works out for you, man.

An Accident is someone pulling out in front of you and causing you to crash.Dropping coals on your parents carpet is an act of stupidity. However most of us have been there and done it to our parents, and to my own carpets. Now I am extremely careful how and where i setup, how i transport my coals & where i place my hookah. And so this guy will too.JD

If I do anything bad they would call me a failure, dumb arse, useless, etc. Even if I try to explain to my dad what a hookah is he would still think its used for smoking pot or illegal drugs. Yeah, I havent told them, I told them I was playing with a zippo and dropped it on accident.. it is really easy to hide this whole hookah thing from them because my parents work 9am- 10pm and when they get home they go straight to their bed room to sleep. It sucks but its how they put food on the table. Well when they came home they looked at the spot. I was lectured and called insane over and over , I could understand why as I had not told them the truth of how the mark really got there. It wasnt as bad as I had expected but they want me to get a professional and fix it up, which I am. Edited September 15, 2007 by thomas

FURsAKeN
Well its good you told your parents, look at it this way, it could be alot worse... Next time, keep your hookah on the floor, on a slab of metal or a cheap rug.. It limits unwanted burns and disasters..
