ahwahoo2006
OBY -I don't think anyone can really give you exact numbers there. All those things you are asking about are dependent on your regional economy. Rent, for example, flucuates wildly, depending on where in the country you live. I know, here, in the DC area, a decent efficiency (not even a one bedroom) can go for $1000 a month (in the city), whereas in more rural areas that sort of money could be the mortgage payment on a 3 bedroom house. My advice to you would be to keep in mind your customer base and charge accordingly. IIRC, Eugene is where the University of Oregon is, so you will probably have a lot of college students who don't want to pay $15 a bowl. I'm no accountant, but I would suggest coming up with a budget and business plan that allows you have have, say, $5 bowls. I know there are a ton of college-age people on this board (myself included) who would be happy to give you advice from that aspect. The final thing you ask about, how long until things get going, is really dependent on you. If you advertise well and perhaps have some good specials for the first month or so to bring people in, then you can establish a good customer base. With good service you can keep that base and use them as your advertisers. I do a lot of work with marketing, so this I can speak to fairly well: one of the most effective advertising is personal referals. Hope that helps. What I am trying to do is gather info from a few different lounge owners on their journey so I have some sort of idea of what to expect. I know what rent costs here... I know the laws, I know how to make it super cool so people will come back....I don't know where to buy wholesale supplies, how to avoid conflict with the gov, and so on...
