nyr920
Hi, I'm new to this forum, and was wondering if anyone could help me out. I've been having problems using screens with the hookah, as I never get the same thickness in smoke or consistancy as when I don't use a screen. Could it be that i need a wind cover on top of the screen, or maybe the coals I use aren't good enough (I use round discs that are self lighting...not really traditionally meant for hookah use, but nonetheless they work and are easy to light. Please help me out as I am getting sick of tasting the charcoal near the end of the smoke! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again.
cypress
What brand of coals are you using. I recomend Goldens. Some people like 3 kings but if you are not useing those 2 then you might be tasting the coals. The screens require more heat to produce the same thickness. You can recover some heat by making a chimney out of foil. Seandoo
Yeah I'd have to say that it's all in the charcoal you use, and how much. Though I have no experience with screens, I've also heard that more heat is necessary with them. Yeah man move away from those quicklights...I know how much more convenient they can be, especially if you're away from home when using your hookah...but it's really worth your time to get some decent coals. I use the japanese ones with the silver coating, but some people on the forum seem to think they can taste the silver stuff. Tastes fine to me but that's the best coal I've tried so I wouldn't know any better if it's not as good. But yeah it's still night-and-day better than quicklights because I always experienced a coal-like taste every time. I'm back on the forum (I think)
Stew
I used 1 1/2 golden coals and a screen with my Romman lemon and sweet melon yesterday. About half way through is when I throw on the windscreen.
