Yay... I Got My New Hookah Today!

Recommended Posts

So, I am at college and I decided it was time to get a new hookah. I just got it in, a green Mya QT, and I already love it.

My buddy and I decided to start simple. Used the standard bowl and some watermellon Layalina. It smoked like a dream. Great taste, and great clouds, normal buzz.

Now after this we decided to get some of the other goodies that came today with the hookah. We popped on the MNHookah glass phunnel bowl (large) with the mod, packed in some tangiers, and attempted to follow the directions I've read to get it going. Packed it somewhat tightly (compared to the fluffing that goes on with all other shishas I use) all the way to brim and made the 2 concentric rings of holes with one in the middle.

Based on what I've read we put three quarters of a 33mm 3 Kings quicklight around the far edges and skipped the wind cover. After a few minutes we weren't going anywhere. We were just getting light wispy hits, like a cigarette. Deciding I packed it poorly, we repacked and tried again with the same results. I figured for the sake of experimentation I'd leave one quarter on, and throw on a whole 33mm coal, just to see if that would through some life into it... and it did. We were getting almost as big of clouds as the Layalina, with a sweet buzz, but as expected shortly after, we started burning tobacco in most spots around the bowl (where the shisha was touching the foil) and the buzz quickly subsided before the smoke.

Now to the questions. I've read that with tangiers in a phunnel its supposed to be filled to the top, but does that mean its ok for it to touch the foil, or not quite that much? As for the buzz dropping off shortly after it came on, I've noticed that happening in the past. Is it normal for that to happen or do you usually have a buzz for the whole smoke?

Thanks,

Ecstacy

You are correct in hearing that Tangiers needs to be filled all the way to the brim. Also, fluff the tobacco more than packing it. Its ok to gently pack it VERY little but for the most part, its better to keep it fluffy. As for the burning, coal management is very key. I've used two 3Kings on opposite ends with nearly 1/3 of the coal hanging off of the bowl and circulating them regularly. The holes you use are fine but the way Eric (Sonthert, President of Tangiers) does it is using a thumbtack, he punches easily over a hundred small holes all over.

Thanks for the suggestions. So when you say it should be filled to the brim, its cool for it to touch the foil?

you'll find the buzz doesnt really go away, your body is just adjusting more to the nic. you get such a rush of a buzz because all of a sudden your body is flooded with nic. but then it regulates your system and sort of evens out, but after having a good 1.5 hour session i'm still pretty tired/relaxed and buzzed for a good half hour more, sometimes 45 minutes.
