brother812
well this afternoon my new hookah arrived. to bad it was a half an hour before i had to leave for work so i didn't have time to try it out before work. but now the work day is done and i am getting my first experience with a hookah. the hookah i got was from hookahcompany.com the 2 hose package deal. it came with 2 Mya hoses and from what i read they are good hoses but i was a bit disappointed that they have plastic ends on them. other than that all seems good with the hookah. they did say in the description that it was 25" tall and with the base on from the floor to the top of the bowl it measures 34". i have no idea how these are measured but i am happy because it sits nicely by my desk. i talked to George on the phone and he was very helpful and seemed like a cool guy so all in all i am happy with HC and will send more business their way. now on to my first smoke. unfortunately i placed the order before i read many reviews on here so i just got the Al-waha variety pack so i have 16 50g boxes to try out. my first flavor, that i am smoking now, is the melon. i must say it is an enjoyable smoke i can taste the melon but the smoke is very thin. that is more than likely because my heat isn't right but that is something i will learn in time. all in all ......yep i think i will very soon be hooked on the hookah and in the next day or so be placing an order for some better shisha's to try out. looking forward to trying some of the "premium" ones ....hell i am looking forward to trying all the flavors and finding what i like. anyhow just want to say thanks to everyone i have learned allot here that made my first smoke more enjoyable....the pic below is my new hookah.. Mathazar
Along with ordering more ma'assel to smoke, you might as well get some good charcoal to go along with it. Might I reccommend either Golden (quick-light) Coals or Al Ajdad/Nour Natural Wood Finger Coals. Both coals are exceptionally good, but where Nour doesn't sparkle and never blows-up, Golden Coals do. Golden Coals sparkle a lot and sometimes they blow-up while lighting them. Though they only sparkle while lighting them. The sparkly stuff can get on your carpet and cause the carpet to change black in the spot you're lighting your coals. The best thing to do if you decide to get Golden Coals is to put a thick large carpet or else something that won't burn, because those exploding coals will put holes in your carpet that I guarantee you're not going to like All-in-all, though, Golden Coals and Nour are probably the BEST hookah coals on the market. The Nour Coals will have to be lit on an electric coil stove, as a simple cigarette lighter will NOT get the job done. Remember, you want you coals REDHOT before placing on the foil. Enjoy your new hookah!
John Deere
I always light my quicklights outside, because they smell bad and if one gets a little too exited (not fun) there goes your carpet.
brother812
thanks all. Mathazar- the coals i am using are diamante natural finger coals and a natural coconut coal that look like small briquettes. last night i was using the coconut coals and i don't think i used a big enough piece tonight i am trying the double apple and using the diamante coals, 2 pieces around 1 1/2" long, and i am getting much more smoke and flavor. one thing i did figure out is if you loose your ball bearing you can use an air soft BB. i have a few airsoft guns and the ammo is the same size and wont rust. you can get them at wal-mart for a few bucks. one other thing i learned is if you have a ferret setting your hookah where she cant get near it is a must ... Mathazar
brother812.......if you find that your Diamante or Coconut coals are imparting a charcoal flavor into your smoke, then I suggest you try either Golden Coals or Al-Ajdad/Nour Coals, because they are completely flavorless & odorless. They will impart NO charcoal flavor into your smoke. You can buy these coals over at www.Hookah-Shisha.com
Stew
Golden coals are great. The only issue is that 3 kings are easier to get around here so after I'm done with this roll I'll be using 3 kings almost exclusively.
Esoj
Yeah Three Kings is what I found... I believe they are tasteless and odorless as well? Correct me if I am wrong. Any one try out Fumari Premium?? Ive got the peach and exotic Mango but havent tried it.
Stew
In addition, what is the difference between fumari premium and signature?
Esoj
I think the signature is exclusively made for fumari... in other words you wont see another brand with the same flavors. I have the signature Exotic Mango. Although you can find mango with other brands you wont find the Exotic Mango. The premium is good but it has the more generic flavors found with other brands. I think thats right, at least thats what I got from the Fumari website. "Yeah Three Kings is what I found... I believe they are tasteless and odorless as well? Correct me if I am wrong. Any one try out Fumari Premium?? Ive got the peach and exotic Mango but havent tried it. " Can anyone come up with answers to this?
mushrat
While i realize that quicklites (3kings,goldens,diamante) are easier and faster to use. I'd really suggest investing the extra 5 minutes and the price for a torch of some sort (or a stove top) to use natural coals. I mean whats the hurry? You are setting up for an hour + of relaxing smokeing, why not put a little more effort in to make it better. Folks are spending large sums of money to have premium ma'asells for higher quality smokes, why then turn around and cheap out on the second most important factor in your smoking experience? I use bulk charcoal, this batch came in a cardboard box, its called Adu Abdo. the charcoal is in various sizes and shapes and i take a few minutes every so often to cut useable chunks up and store them in a tupperware comtainer. When I am ready for a session I torch a few pieces, put one or two on the screen, a few more started in an old percolator from a coffeee pot, and off I go. With the natural coals I've noticed they don't have to be fully ashed to put on the screen, as long as they are well on their way they are fine, and still no taste from them. Every person I've spoken to at the middle-eastern stores and the 2 hookah cafes here all say the same thing, quicklites suck. For a true hookah experience, you have to use natural coals. $.03 (more opinionated than usual)
Mathazar
3Kings are NOT tasteless. I had to stop using them because they imparted SO much charcoal flavor into the smoke. I switched to Golden Coals which ARE flavorsless & odorless. The only problem with Golden Coals is that they sparkle a lot which puts a black ash on the carpet and over time it stains the sh*t out of it. Plus, Goldens have a tendency to sometimes blow-up while lighting them. Fortunately I wear glasses and no permanent damage was done to myself, but my carpet looks like a battlefield. I agree that, overall, natural wood coals are the way to go. Nour coals, IMO, are the absolute BEST!!! I got mine at Hookah-Shisha. They're now called: Al-Ajdad, but on the bag in the picture you can see the name Nour. I say, in all honesty, don't wait. Go get yourself a couple bags of Nour Natural Wood Coals, and you'll soon be in CHARCOAL HEAVEN!!!
John Deere
I had a coal blow up in my face before, and I DONT wear glasses, so I got shot in the eye with half ignited charcoal, not pleasant, but I was lucky and can still see. Now I have this stainless steel bowl that I take outside and light 1 or 2 coals in it, let them go, when I come back they are done, and not dangerous. Esoj
Aaah, thankyou ALL for your input which I found to be quite enlightening. I wasnt aware of the taste in the 3 Kings charcoal since I hadnt used them before. I will be sure to return to my local shop and look for Nour Natural Wood Coals. Thanks again. Mathazar
If you can't find the Nour Coals at your local shop, then go to: www.Hookah-Shisha.com and look for the Al-Ajdad Natural Wood Coals. I don't know why they call them Al-Ajdad now, when in reality they are actually Nour Coals, but Hookah-Shisha is the BEST place to get them as far as I know. Great Customer Service and the ordering process is a breeze.......In & Out
mushrat
If they don't have those, ask for any bulk natural charcoal. You'll have to cut them up to size, but better than quicklites if they don't have nour.

brother812
got a bag of Nour coals otw from hookahcompany.com, BTW they are $3 cheaper than H-S, and 1.5 Kg. of different flavors of shisha coming. i will probably be placing an order with H-S in a few weeks because i do want to get a few rolls of Golden's for when i am out and about and don't have the means to light the naturals. and H-S carry Romman and i want to give that a try. i do envy all you who have hookah shops and bars around you. i live just on the other side of nowhere in the woods of Pa. so my only option is the internet. maybe i should start my own their are a few universities around here i could probably make a mint with good advertising .... Mathazar
bro812.....if you're looking to buy ma'assel from H-S, then I've found that the best flavors are: Double Apple (tastes exactly like Ouzo), Lemon, Orange, Peach, and Strawberry. I thought the Banana sucked, but you might like it, I seek absolute perfection in all the flavors I smoke, and if they don't taste like the real thing, then IMO they SUCK Romman Banana is one of those flavors you get bored of quickly. I don't remember trying the other flavors or seeing anyone else comment on them. Best thing to do is go for the sample packs first and once you've found what you like, then order in bulk, because Romman is FAR too expensive to be wasting money on if you're not sure what you like. But, I'm pretty certain you'll like the flavors I mentioned

Stew
Brother812, as a Canadian, I have it worse, I had to pay $18 duty on $25 worth of tobacco. The nearest canadian shop (so I've heard, don't even have the name for it) that sells ma'asell is 6 hours away. The closest place that will definitely have some is about 18-20 hours away. Import fees on tobacco to canada are something like $0.18 a gram which makes ordering a 250g tub at least a $60 investment.
Mathazar
Hey Stew, don't sweat the 18 bucks, I just paid $83 to Overnight to me 2 hoses, a set of tongs, and 1500grams of ma'assel from HookahHookah. On top of which I also paid $65 to Hookah-Shisha to Overnight a 36" Rotator, 3 kilos of Nour Coals, and some Romman ma'assel. That's $148 in Overnight Shipping charges. But hey, that's just me, I can't stand the anticipation of waiting for stuff to arrive. I've got $15 left in my account til I get next week's check. I'm gonna be broke for a week Though I suppose $18 is a lot to have to pay for so little tobacco.....Major bummer for you man
