garykainz
So, It's only been 7 months since I got my 1 hose Sphinx from H-S.com, and let me tell ya, I baby that thing. So I go to look the other day and the purge valve is kinda wobbly. I investigate more to find that the weld has broken (not completely, but very nearly). So I taped it and smoked anyway. It didn't seem to effect the smoke, but I know the thing's gonna break soon. I emailed H-S and asked if there was anything they could do, but haven't gotten a response yet (but I just did it, so I'm not too worried). Do you think they'll help a broke college student out and send me a replacement stem, or am I outta my mind?Am I gonna have to pony up and buy a new stem? (If so, I'll just by a new hookah)
Allia22
Wow, that sucks. Go to an auto body shop and see if they'll weld it up for you.
rbyers
Definitely go to a welding place and ask them to weld it for you.
Scheetz
JB Weld? But I am unsure if that will be toxic.
joseph*
I had the same problem, so I just had to remove the purge valve and cover the hole their. Hookah still smokes fine, but I can't really clear out stale smoke

Zildjian
non toxic metal glue could work. but i know my autobody guy would do that for me, so if u go to the same dude time after time likely he will mend it for you. otherwise....dance for pennies?? garykainz
is something like superglue/crazy glue/gorilla glue toxic? and it's not like it'd be near the heat source, or come in to the base...
Zildjian
i believe those are all non toxic. walmart 60cents

mushrat
could probably use the gum to hold the valve in place as well....I knew i liked you for a reason sariel.... garykainz
well, I'm having some AF Orange right now (meh, see my review) and I wasn't getting much smoke with the wobbly, scotch taped purge valve, so I yanked it out... I've re-covered it up with scotch tape and it's working better, but still not great. I need to find a permanent solution to it, but it's working ok for now
mushrat
the steel putty from an automotive place would be my best advice...http://www.midwayautosupply.com/pm-1981-77...2-oz-16002.aspxis what i've used. I get it at Advance Auto. JB weld makes something just like it as well.
HookahCulture
I had the exact same problem with the valve stem!Head to my site (index page and then link from there), I wrote a paragraph on how I fixed it PROPERLY with a portable butane torch and solder.Basically, the stuff used to weld hookahs is a very low-temp lead-based solder. You want to be low temp and even heat and don't blast one location for a long time. Solder is a little bit more high temp than the original welding material. You might get a bit of bluing on your steel though so don't expose for long.OR you could use some epoxy, just don't glob it on, make sure you make it look neat. Mahir
Yep...use an epoxy....Both to either plug it up or to mend the valve.A product to consider is PC-7 it is a 2 part epoxy glue that bonds metal pretty well...works wellYou can get this stuff pretty much anywhere....check Home Depot first though.-NH

Probably cheaper that a braizing torch.
leadpipecinch21
a propane torch is much easier to solder something like that than using a soldering iron, or so my experiences have taught me. Plus, you can use the torch to light naturals too....*edit said butane instead of propane. Edited September 27, 2007 by leadpipecinch21
