Whats So Special?

Recommended Posts

I see people talking about Tangiers Shisha a lot, so, whats the big deal? Ive heard its juicier, stuff like that...take a picture of a bowl, id like to see it (also the set up of a phunnel would be good to see as im interested in getting one)

What else makes a good shisha? Ive smoked Nakhla and AF which was prett good (white grape the best, orange good too) and Starbuzz is also excellent. What do you all think?? Edited by Zildjian

Tangiers is amazing. I have a friend who hates a buzz, but will smoke it anyway just for the flavor and thickness of smoke you get.
It is personally my favorite shisha out there, buy some and you will see what I mean!

It's very... difficuly.. i guess.. to smoke a bowl of Tangiers. But reallly, it's not, it just takes practice. Tangiers is very Environment Sensitive, to humidity, so it has to be acclimated. ANd it does have a higher nocotine content, but i have noticed afetr acclimating it for much longer than it says to, there is no harshness and the buzz id very mellow, near perfect.

It's all about patience, and yes, Tangiers is wuite a bit "Juicier", as i'm looking at my brand new sample right about now. It's also much darker.

I've been messing with Tangiers almost everyday for well over a year now, and here's what I've found.

When it smokes well, it's the best -- no other tobacco comes close.

Unfortunately, it doesn't always smoke well -- lately I've been concluding that sometimes whether or not it smokes well is completely out of the smoker's hands. The way you pack the bowl and set up the heat is very important, but it's just not going to smoke no matter what if it doesn't want to. Mine smokes best during the summer, which is weird because I smoke it in an air conditioned house with the windows closed. In fact, I've found that during the summer it doesn't even really matter much how I pack the bowl and adjust the heat -- it's actually pretty hard to make it smoke poorly. During the winter though, forget it -- it's almost impossible to get a good bowl going. The flavors seem off, the smoke is painfully harsh, and the nicotine overwhelms.

Nonetheless, this is the only tobacco I buy anymore -- all other brands, except maybe some flavors of Nakhla, just don't seem to be worth the money. The only thing Tangiers can be criticized for is it's temperamental nature. Moving into fall, my smokes aren't going as well... I just hope they don't get any worse as winter approaches. Out of at least 2-3 kg, I didn't have a single good smoke last winter.

That is probably quite true for cymptom because hes like DIE HARD tang fan so that must be a pretty honest review of how things are going. Me? well i only ever bought kashmir peach and thinkin about it now i actually bought it in winter haha, didnt get ONE good smoke out of it sad.gif , i tried and i tried honest but i gave up lol. Say if new people are coming round to mine id be scared to make a tang bowl incase it went wrong. I dunno how mush serves it in his bar, i really dont, but then eric has a bar full of his very own made tangiers. All wierd, i dont think il ever succeed regarding it tho, maybe someday il smoke at someones house whos an expert and LOVE it and rekindle my interest in it.

One more thing tho- i totally believe the hype regarding it tho even though i may not wish to explore it further at this moment in time!! Edited by DrShisha

I'd love to try Tangiers but I am not experienced enough to take all the necessary steps to ensure that it will be a good smoke.

Out of the few brands of the shisha I have tried, I think I enjoy Starbuzz the most.

I just tried Tangiers Cocoa yesterday... my first run with this brand. I don't know what the fuss is about, because I had no problems and I'm a relatively inexperienced hookah smoker. I portioned out a small amount of it and stirred quite a bit, and didn't acclimate (from a chemistry perspective, 'acclimation' makes no sense whatsoever). Because of the long strands of this tobacco, I packed it slightly more than I would have another brand. Setup was a Sphinx 2 hose (1 hose plugged), Nammor, Vitamin Water 32oz plastic bottle for a base (broke mine recently) with ice, and standard glazed Egyptian bowl. I used this bowl because it was a bit wider and shallower than my bowl of preference, the 'Saudi Arabian Hookah Head' from hookahcompany.com.

It was a nice session, and is clearly a quality brand. Got slightly less smoke than I tend to from Starbuzz, but much more of a nicotine buzz, which I definitely want. I noticed the tobacco is a bit heat sensitive, so I stuck with 1 33mm 3kings moved around the bowl pretty much the whole session. There was a tiny bit of throat tickle, but it was only bad when I added a second coal for a moment. Granted, this is just n=1, but it seems to me that a lot of the buzz surrounding Tangiers, both because of its pickiness as a tobacco and its huge buzz, might be misplaced. If I hadn't observed Eric of Tangiers posting on these boards without obnoxious advertisement, I would think that the pickiness and the 'need to acclimate' are just marketing gimmicks, or perhaps even an escape card for if someone happens not to like the brand. "What, it didn't smoke well? You just didn't do it right!"
