Bryantos
I was just curious as to what you guys use to clean your hookah. I used to think simply running water through it would get all the gunk out, but then one day I tried lemon juice. It went in yellow, but came out.... well... not yellow. Was really gross to see that we've been smoking out of that. After I showed my friend, he wont smoke from the hookah anymore without cleaning it after every session, so I'm glad we got into the habbit.Anyone use any cleaning solutions? We asked a waiter at a hookah lounge around here, and he said they use some kind of "gel" to clean out the hookahs, but he didn't know what its called. Any ideas? Lemon juice really well for me, and if you don't clean your hookah out like we did... I suggest you pick up some cheap lemon juice. It makes all the difference. BrotherBuford
I simply rinse it out with water between smokes, unless it gets really dirty. If it's really gotten crudded up I soak the parts in a sodium percarbonate (sold under the brands Oxyclean Free, Powdered Brewery Wash, and Straight-A) and hot water solution and rinse well with hot water. Sodium percarbonate is used to clean metal and plastic brewing equipment so I always have some on hand.EDIT: Forgot to mention, sodium percarbonate solution in water is very basic, around pH 11 or 12. It will feel slick on your hands - if the shisha parts still feel slick after rinsing you need to rinse them a little more. Although lemon juice does a good job to clean the stem, because of its acidity exposing your hookah to the juice for too long will cause it to corrode. Check out our HKH-101 section for better cleaning and maintenance techniques.Hope this helps! HookahCulture
I use a few drops of dishwashing liquid and a tiny bit of hot water with the brush for the stem, and for the bottle I use bleach and hot water or lavender Pine Sol and water with the brush. MechAnt
I use vodka diluted down with some water. Works THE BEST. I first got the idea after watching an episode of Mythbusters that proved that vodka is in fact an effective deodorant.
IAmFromJamany
I remember cleaning out my hose once, it had a funny taste that wouldn;t go away, but when i ran water though it, it just kept coming out clear. So, i squeezed a little dish soap in it and let it sit for half a day with a mix of soap and water in it (i elevated each end so the water wouldn't spill out.) When it was finally time, I rinsed water though it, and a dark brown sludge came out. I rinsed it a few more times to make sure i got all the soap out. needless to say that taste was long gone Edited October 3, 2007 by IAmFromJamany

MechAnt
For my birthday, a bunch of my friends bought me grey goose. I think I had 7 bottles at one point. I have 4 1/2 left. I use the equivalent to about 1/2 to 3/4 of a shot to clean the hookah thoroughly.
spoolinspoon
hahaha. I have almost a case of Goose.I still wouldn't waste it on cleaning the hookah. How about denatured alcohol?
NarghileNights
hmmm alcohol to clean a hookah.. we clean every hookah after every use, just get one of those dish cleaning sponges with the handle, dab it on the end of each side so that you dont get actual soap, but the soapy soap(lol), and then give it a good scrub with the biggest hookah cleaner you can. yashman19
I really just rinse my pipe with warm water after every session. I only really clean the down stem maybe once every 1-2 months, and thats just with a long narrow brush, no soap again. Does the trick.Sure if I smoke something really strong like mint I can partially taste it on my next session of whatever fruit I'm smoking, but its no big deal. I just like to at the very least give it a quick rinse with water after every session so it doesn't build up any resin gunk.
Zildjian
i think the thing that is most tricky is the hoses. when to wash them, when not to, how, with what. i have mya cloisness hoses (i murdered that spelling)
