Saravyn
So, I got some of my Tangiers a couple days ago. I got my Clove, Raspberry, and Tropical Revenge. The Clove and TR smoke great, pack em high in my medium Phunnel and they smoke great and last forever. The Raspberry I am having a little trouble with. It tends to get harsh fairly quickly. I pack it the same as the others and use the same coal setup for it. I did acclimate all 3 of them the same amount of time, about 40 hours (figured I am a mile higher than where it came from, so it deserves lots!).Anyone else have this problem with Raspberry? Or was it possibly just the batch I got? Thanks in advance!
ZenSilk
No, i also had this problem with my one-fruit flavored Tangiers. My Nectarine and my 3rd or fourth bowl of X-97. . It does seem to get a little harsh if your not careful. The taste is perfectly there, so it wasn't a bad batch (i don't think i've ever heard of a bad batch of Tangiers, except Watermelon). Also, is your weather changing? Mines going insane. it snowed 2 days ago, now its 66 degrees. It's fluctuating like mad, so i don't think i'll get a good Tangiers smoke for a while. Cymptom said that during the winter, Tangiers just didn't work for him at all, and i think that's about to become my problem.
Saravyn
Hmm... that could be part of the problem. The temp has been dropping here from 80's to about 50's. So it might be that it is a single fruit flavor.
ZenSilk
Maybe.. cause my brambleberry was good. and my horchata was too. same with orange soda and mimon. Just Nectarine and the new Cherry flavor. But the weather plays an integral part in Tangiers smoking. So i'd go with that.
Dr. Atkins
Christ, this acclimation thing is really getting out of hand. Tangiers is not some magical substance that defies normal chemical behavior and is subject to a unique set of laws. Chances are you just have to use less coals on some flavors because of the composition of the flavoring.

ZenSilk
Acclimation is a key process in smoking Tangiers. I don't remember where, but Cymptom, the "Kashmir Fiend", the Tangiers King, gave a full explanation of how he could not get Tangiers to smoke well during the winter. If you can't trust him, who can you trust? But maybe something can be done to the tobacco so it can be enjoyed regardless of the season?
haunt1
I just tried my third futile attempt to enjoy a bowl of Tangiers Blueberry without scorching my throat. I'm using Golden Quicklites broken into 4 small pieces. I climatized the stuff for 10 hours and I packed it clear to the top of my phunnel bowl until I had to smoosh it down... still no dice. I would love for someone who has a similar smoking method to post some pictures showing how they do their holes and split up the coals and what not. I have two other Tangiers flavors (Horchata and Peach), but I'm nervous to open either of them because I don't think I'll have much better luck with them either. I had to switch to a bowl of Chocolate Mint Starbuzz. Depressing!
ZenSilk
Horchata has absolutely no tingle, i noticed. But the rest of the flavors have a slight to moderate tingle, and a stronger buzz. The more you smoke it, the less harsh it will get. Just like cigarettes. When you take your first puff, inhaling it, your cough like a fiend. Tangiers is much much mellower than a ciggy of course, but it does take some getting used to. The tobacco isnt washed like Starbuzz, which is super-washed, so it will automatically have a higher nicotine content and thus a stronger buzz and tingling sensation. Opened my first sample package, dumped it in a bowl and it smoked perfectly first time. I also switch back and forth between funnels and regular bowls without any problems. Maybe I'm just naturally packing it correctly, maybe being in California humidity is not so much a factor, and maybe I'm just lucky. Of course that whack across the head with the magic wand Eric was holding when he gave me my very first Tangiers sample may have something to do with it too............'Rani

Sonthert
Personally, I think it smokes better during the winter...I think it will vary from person to person and experience to experience. Most people won't notice a difference either way. Pitted fruits (Peach, nectarine, cherry) can be touchy...when in humidity shock, they can't somehow drive all the nicotine out and produce a super huge buzz/harsh smoke. Raspberry is incredibly durable...PM me if you still have trouble and we'll work something out. Early in my testing, I tested it all over the country to see if I could find places where it wouldn't smoke or smoke differently...I even tested it in Denver...smoked fine. EricHey Rani! Hey Silk! ZenSilk
Hmm, well then Eric.. i might need to buy some New Rasberry. I htink that's the cooling Rasberry, which sounds really freakin good. And i hope it smoke great in the winter... That's what having a condo up in Snowbird and a girlfriend who lives in Park City is all about! Hookah + Hot chocolate + Snowboarding (now skiing too) = Heaven on Earth. Hey Eric! BTW. I guess i'll wait for the first true blizzard, acclimate it, and test it out. Garage temperature can get pretty frezing...
