evatall
Well i'm having some problems with my hookah... some of the flavors are not very strong and it seems like it runs out of flavor long before all of the shisha is black. SO i will describe my process for everyone to tear apart. I set everything up, pipe about an inch in ice water i open up a new pakage of sheesha and sprinkle the shisha inthe bowl. I put one of those reusable steel screens in and light the coal. I blow the coal till its all grey on the outside then i put it on. i take huge puffs till i can taste the hookah and the flavor its ok. but it only lasts say 20-25 mins till there is no more smoke in the bell or comming through the pipe. I open up the bowl and the top center bit is black but the rest it still moist. I am using havana sheesha so i dont know if thats the probelm. if its somehting im doing wrong please let me know!i think maybe i need to pack the bowl tighter? but i dont know....thanks for all your help! Victim026
First off ditch the screen, get some foil, the screens just don't seal well and in general work no where near as well as foil. Second if you don't have any more smoke coming through is your coal done or is there still coal left? Perhaps you need to add another coal. Also What kind of bowl and coals are you using exactly? ahwahoo2006
What kind of coals are you using and how many of them? Coals burn out and you need to keep adding them.
HookahCulture
If you're using the metal screen, use two finger coals across the width of the bowl or two regular size quick-lights next to eachother.Havana is a very moist brand so in addition it's OK to use that much coal.DO NOT pack the bowl tighter! It's not going to help and will only hinder your experience since you WANT air circulation.Make sure you have a small hole through the center of the moassel to the bowl holes.Just make sure your level is a few mm below the bowl lip.The metal screen IS a good thing to use, it's a personal preference for me, but if you must use foil, try this pattern with a toothpick:
KillZedKill
I have a collection of metal screens sitting in my closet, never used them. I love Havanna shisha, and my set up with foil and a good deal of coal works great for me.
evatall
ok ill try some foil... i dont know what kindof bowl it is... it not a funnel or reverse funnel or anything fancy. As for coals i dont know the brand but they are in the hookah section of the local shop and they are quicklights. Secondly the coal is still whole and hot but it was also windy this week and i dont have a windscreen yet so that might have caused a faster burnout. so if 20-25 is normal thats good to know.... should i break it up before i light or use as one peice?small hole through the center... where there is no shisha? ill try that it makes sense... so just sprinkle it around the bowl not in the middle....ok i might try another session tonight if i have time and can find foil and i will report back after i try this stuff! Thanks for all the help! im sure ill have more dumb question to follow! MechAnt
Wind shouldn't affect how much heat is getting to the shisha a whole lot, its your draw on it that draws hot air from the coal into the bowl. I smoke on the beach at my school all the time with no heat trouble (I still use only one 33mm 3Kings for a bowl of AF despite the wind and the smoke is great). Leave about 5mm of room between what you pack and the foil. Since you are using QL's have one flat on the bowl with the other one tilted half-stacked on the one lying flat. I had the air conditioning blowing on my coals when I didn't know it, and after a while I looked down and saw my bowl had started on fire >.<
MechAnt
I suppose AC blowing is a little different. It is dry cold air as opposed to slightly humid cool beach air. I can see the heat waves getting blown by the wind but regardless, I get a great session down all the time. I suppose it depends on what KIND of air is blowing.
