Possible Way For Thicker Smoke?

Recommended Posts

The discussion was about milk replacing water in the vase to create thicker smoke.

Why does milk make thicker smoke? It's more dense than water so to speak.
Well from what I learned, milk leaves everything stinky and gross.

My idea, adding corn starch to water to make it as thick as milk.

Now will this work? I am pretty sure it's safe to do. Anyone want to try it and post your results here?
I would but don't have any corn starch laying around.

I'll give this a shot in about 3 hours if you can hold your horses :-) Milk can not be used to replace water. It can be used in addition with water but not to replace, as it will make too many bubbles.

I did not know that... Sure I have all day. I am at work for awhile. Looking forward to seeing if this works.

Oh yah, milk can be a pain. Even when diluted with large amounts of water sometimes it still makes huge bubles that go into your hose and stem. The bubbles remind me of soap bubbles due to their size. Sweetened condensed cream works nice. I usually use 2 parts water to 1 part condensed cream. No problem with bubbles here and a good smoke. Heavy whipping cream with water has given me the best flavor overall though...but this also makes hookah butter in your vase smile.gif Salam. Michael

Yeah, i don't exactly know, but it does make the smoke taste "Creamier" , if you will. I actually don't notice much of a smoke difference, but you are right, the smoke is hticker, so it would make sense that less smoke is produced. Maybe it's so subtle that you can't tell, and people just say it's thicker.

BLARGH you don't need to use milk to get a thicker smoke, just perfect your coals and holes!

True but if you can both perfect the coals and loading and add some additives to the water and you get a quality smoke.

'least thats what I would think. This idea is for the people that can't quite figure out how to perfect coals.

You can always improve on anything. I just wanted to see if it would change anything.

I say crushed ice is best. But HookahCulture brings up a great point... if you already smoke like a God.. why change it or add?

Alright, i'm smoking now with 2TBL cornstarch mixed with water and ice. The addition of cornstarch has no real noticeable effects that I can tell. Nothing good and nothing bad. I would say scratch this idea. Sorry it took so long to get back, I got caught up with some things :-) On a side note I did have a nice session at Starbucks earlier. I will never get used to the strange looks and low chatter I hear when I walk up there with my hookah, it is priceless lol.

use coconut milk it doesnt bubble up. doesnt make for thicker smoke but seems to take the bite off when the shisha starts getting harsh. and it looks cool to have the vase be solid white inside

Milk in the vase... AGAIN?!

This has to be on my top 5 list of dumb things todo with a Nargile.

Thick white super fluffy clouds? Get your bowl packing and heat mangement down. That's it. Done.

As I often lament... This has been a method of smoking Shisha for the past 2,000 years. And I'm fairly sure I've never heard about milk in vases. [1]

Just learn to do it properly.

i am on the side of not putting milk in the base. as said before, pack your bowls and get your heat right. you can also try base, stem and hose in the freezer, then ice and cold water in the base when you are ready to smoke, because thoretically, colder air means that it is more dense.

Listen to the wise JD all you need is practice on heat management and you can get huge clouds

I would just like to add to this whole "tradition" thing some of you have going...

Don't spout tradition and then go buy some factory manufactured hookah like a Mya or modern hookah... or... a phunnel bowl.

Oh, and also, everything changes, in big and small ways. So don't jump on those who like to experiment. It is what keeps the world going around.

Edit: I take no sides on the milk debate. I stick with either ice and water, or in the case of certain fruity flavors I add that kind of drink (ex: peach tea for Peach Iced Tea Tangiers). Edited by Saravyn

Totally agree with this guy. I am a person that hates tradition and like to do things totally different. Whether it be different to get the same effect or different and getting a worse effect but cooler appearance.
