I've worked out off and on for a little while, but I did most of it while I when I was 15 and 16, so I wasn't smoking then. I started working out again recently and was wondering how the effects of smoking were going to hinder my bodybuilding, which made me question how many people that work out are also habitual smokers.

How many of you guys take an interest in body building, and still keep smoking as a hobby? Im thinking about taking smoking in moderation, and hit the weights hard and serious this time. Protein, eating right (which I've been doing for a good 2 years, now, and the effects are showing), cardio, and getting in a good fitness routine.

Hookah has never hindered me in any way. I play college lacrosse, made my run times and still smoked 3-4 times a week.

There was a guy at my high school who ran track. He did all the long K runs and placed I think it most of them. He smoked a pack of cigs a day. If you take care of your body smoking wont slow you down.

I lift weights, I used to train jujitsu and muay tai but now I just paintball every sunday and I try to lift weights atleast 2 days per week.

Sometimes I feel like I'm working harder but then again it could just be me being lazy.

I lift my ass off every day, try to stay below 8-9% body fat, bench double my bw for a couple, smoke atleast 1 cigar a day, and usually have a hookah session 2-3 times a week... As for endurance, I run 15-20 mins pretty hard no problem. 40-45 min cardio sessions aren't out of the question. If you do things to offset the smoking, eat decently clean, and drink a lot of water, you'll be fine... If you eat like crap, sit on your ass and drink pop all day, you'll have trouble.

i started running atleast a mile everyday for the past week. I smoke a lot of cigarettes and a lot of shisha and it started off rough but now a mile is nothing and i plan on increasing it to two miles tomorrow

7 Sets, each 7 Reps, of 225. I do that 4 times a week. To condition myself, I play tennis, basketball, and I swim. Those 3 sports do wonders to your heath, more so than running. Especially swimming, it basically works every part of your body, most importantly Lungs and Heart. Think about it...

i work out 2-3 times a week. however my job involves alot of physical labor which keeps me in shape. moving sheetrock and cement bags around all day builds the muscle up pretty well rolleyes.gif . I smoke 2-3 cigs a day, as well as hookah almost evrey night however this does not hinder me. When i was in highschool i wrestled and smoked throughout the season and it dident hinder my proformance. I knew a kid in highschool who would smoke a cig right before he had to run for track. literally would put it out 20 secconds before his heat started and he did very well.

I hope you don't just mean benching by 7x7x225, because you are going to develop some serious imbalances in musculature and joint rotation (not fun to tear a rotator cuff).

Interesting, my ex-fb would work his legs out like crazy and not do too much upper body... he has sore knees now, gigantic shocker. I think he works the larger muscle groups just to maintain body weight, but it makes me wonder why he didn't work the pectorals, which are the 2nd largest group and would also help metabolism. Oy, that health freak rolleyes.gif
