brian4561
I'm still new at this hookah thing. In fact, I've only been at it a few weeks, but already i'm enjoying it immensely. I hear lots of folks talking about the Phunnel bowl and the fact that it works better. I've also heard about the mod for the Phunnel (Scalli??) and it seems that most folks who use the Phunnel use the mod too. Up to now, I've been using pretty standard medium sized egyptian clay bowls on my 22" hookah. I tend to prefer washed shisha, like Al Fakher, since a crazy buzz isn't the most important thing to me. Are the Phunnels better? Are they only for Tangiers? What is this mod? Do you need the mod to use a Phunnel, or can you use it without? Should I just keep on with my standard bowls and not worry about the Phunnel?Could someone please educate me. I've seen lots about it on the forum, but no simple explanation of what it is, why I want it (or don't) and how to use it. Thanks in advanceBrian

The mod supposedly makes it better. Tangiers is good out of any bowl. For now, just keep on with your standard bowl.
nofrendo
+1 I wouldn't recommend a phunnel unless you are going to be smoking with a lot of people for a long time. It uses up a lot of coal and a lot of shisha.Personally, I like my glass tulip bowl the best, but the difference between that and a standard bowl is not HUGE, it just helps with the heat management... SafeSearchOff
i reccomend to get the basics down first. figure out how to get that really killer smoke with just a standard bowl. then, when you got it all down, move to a phunnel.as for the mod, i used to advocate it alot, because it made sense, but i realize its not necessary. if you pack the bowl to the top, there is no need at all for a mod. KillZedKill
Since the shape of the funnel bowl is, an inverted funnel, with the raised hole in the center, the shishas juices are forced to settle at the bottom. instead of just running down the stem of your hookah. This increases the length of your session by quite some time. The mod, when added to the funnel, forces air to be pulled down to the very bottom of the bowl, where all of this juice is at, increasing flavor and giving a more direct air flow, increasing smoke a bit for non tangiers brand tobacco.I think this is pretty much correct. Zildjian
i just got my small one in from j & r, think its worth it to get a medium? or just jump up to a large for use with multiple people?
ZenSilk
Larges are Gigante, and hard to find. If you don't use the mod it's quite alot of shisha, even in the medium. But if you smoke that much, go for it!
MechAnt
The difference between a small and a med phunnel is negligible. Either way, you're gonna love it. As others have said, get your regular bowl and practice so you can get KILLER smoke secondhand. Once you have that second nature, then invest in a phunnel bowl. Its only for the better
