Asking For The Brand Name?

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I'm new to posting but I've been lurking around the forums for a while now and I love this place. I've only recently started smoking hookah and I'm hooked to say the least. However I haven't recently gotten a chance to try many brands and I'm wanting to expand my horizons. Anyway, there is a local hookah bar where I first tried smoking that I've attended a few times and it has always been a GREAT experience. I'm wondering if it is considered acceptable policy to ask what brand of shisha is being served? I would love to try some of this at home, that way I would at least be able to rule out my brand of choice as being the downside of my smoking. However it concerns me that this may seem rude as in I don't want to give them my business anymore. Any thoughts on the matter?

You definitely have the right to ask what brand they're serving -- after all, you're paying for the privilege! :-)

Odds are, if the owners are real hookah buffs, they'll be glad to tell you what brand it is and talk to you about their own likes and dislikes.

Absolutely.
If they ask why you want to know, odds are they have something to hide.
They should be proud to tell you since they believe it to be good enough to serve.
However I know one place that serves Nakhla (a sub-par brand) and they're fine with it as they're traditional Egyptians.

It's good to know what you're smoking so you know what you like. It makes buying shisha on your own a lot easier. You may even be able to buy the shisha at the bar as well. Most the bars around me sell the shisha they serve so you can take it home with you.

I would not consider Nakhla a sub-par brand, they have their good and bad flavors just like everyone else

Could not agree more. Nakhla is actually a very good brand, albiet it a bit more 'traditional'.

Agreed -- Nakhla double apple is still a go-to tobacco for me, completely solid. It's a very traditional brand, so you're not going to see really innovative stuff, but if you like unwashed, there are some seriously good flavors there.

I honestly could not see how it would be seen as rude to ask the brand. I would think its just part of the bussiness. Personally i am of the opion that brands should be posted/listed. If for not other reason than some people can not smoke some brands. Other people favor certain brands and would seek them out.

Now as to the comment that Nekhla is a sub par brand?!? It is a very good brand and pretty much a standard brand. Try a couple of flavors and decide for yourself. Nekhla is a bit different than other brands. Nekhla is dryer, carries more of a kick, does have some funky flavors. But that being said i think you could take any brand and find really funky/nasty flaovrs.

I will say for the flavors I want, Nakhla doesn't hold up, but I'm sure for the traditional double apple that's what you want!
I myself keep tot he fruit flavors and the occasional Zaghloul mix.
I've had the double apple occasionally (not in MY hookah)...
Maybe there's another thread for this but....
Best double apple? Are they ALL heavy anise or are there some with a hint of apple?

My guess is, double apple is traditionally a heavy anised flavor. Strong flavor and has a small sweetness of an apple. It never really has the "fresh, just bitten into" apple taste just that traditional anise. I like it occasionally.

as for askign teh brand name, if they don't tell you, don't ever go there ever again. My local loung uses HookahHookah shisha. and they say it with pride. and to tell you honestly, they get it to smoke frieking incredibly well. Thick as hell smoke... nice flavor... unexpected from HH

Thanks for the all the replies guys! I just didn't want to offend anyone b/c they were worried about losing customers to home smokers but I'm heading over this weekend and I'm dying to know what they use(in fact may go tommorow just out of impatience lol!).

Just to throw my 2 cents in, I don't care for the double apple, I don't like anise at all but I love a good single apple.

I'm sure most hookah bar owners know people smoke at home -- your local place probably even sells stuff for home smokers. Not everyone can restrict their smoking to the times they want to go out and can find a place open, etc. :-D
