Oh Man, Oh Man

Recommended Posts

So if you've been keeping up with my posts as of late, I've been in search of a brass pipe. There are just so many choices. Some Magdy Zidanes, KM Amer, Syrians from SS and JandR. I just don't know what to pick!

Here are some links to pipes that have been catching my eye:

28" Green Scarab. Looks great, I love the color green. Looks reminicent of a KM and has a KM hose.

30" Heavy Duty. Has a more modern Egyptian look. Very unique! Has a great hose (I've had experience with those hoses).

30" Al Kareem. Nour pipe! Looks great. A memeber here has one too.

32" Dahab. Very unique color scheme with the natural brass look and deep red. Has the same great hose as the previous.

35" Horas C. Made by Magdy Zidane. More traditional look.

SS's Syrians. Unfortuantely a stainless steel downstem.

KM Amer. Not listed at HC anymore. Very traditional Egyptian look. Many people own and swear on them.

J & R's Syrians. Look fantastic, have that traditional Syrian look.

All of these pipes have a stainless steel downstem.

So many to choose from, I don't know! Its awesome that I have this many choices for brass pipes. I thought they were a little more rare. Help me critique these and any other suggestions would definitely be welcome smile.gif Edited by MechAnt

Well, speaking as the forum member who has the Al Kareem Syrian..... Surely I'm not the only one though?

Honestly, I can't say that a brass pipe smokes better than stainless steel. Both are inert metals. Both will etch from acidic resins. Neither will rust. I have the KM Tri-Metal and the 28" Red Sangria both from HC as well as the AK. And of all three of the full size pipes I use the cheapest - the pure stainless steel Sangria - daily. They all smoke exceptionally well in my humble opinion. I don't particularily go after brass pipes and here's the reasoning: I'm a construction project manager for a huge plumbing company. We use various materials for piping including brass fittings and stainless steel pipe. Also PEX and cast iron, etc., but that's a whole other story. If you've watched the news lately, there are plumbling failures ongoing due to corrosives in tap water. What's failing? The brass fittings. Not the stainless steel, not the other metals, not the plastics. So to automatically assume a brass pipe is a better pipe is probably not necessarily true. Brass is still a relatively soft metal compared to say bronze or titanium.

Choose a pipe you love for looks and smokability. So long as it's well made I don't know that brass versus stainless should be part of the criteria.

Thanks Boho, that was very helpful. I've been looking for brass pipes because I want to add to my collection by having a more traditional pipe that is brass. I have a smaller egyptian that is stainless (smokes great) and a MYA acrylic.

Sidenote, pretty much all of the said pipes have stainless steel down pipes with brass stems.

Id also make sure the SS pipes are truly SS. I know that Sonthert has brought up that most SS hookahs aren't truly stainless steel, they are plated steel, which is almost as good as long is the plating is on there properly. Especially making sure that the interior pipe is true Stainless Steel. Some MYAs have some plating issues on the lower end, so I'd be suspect of less expensive hookahs that say they are SS.

Also, you live in Santa Barbara, if you can get down to Hookah Company or Pimp Your Hookah and check out the pipes yourself, thats the real guarantee you'll get exactly what you want. Might be worth the drive down the coast.

I say a JandR, the Al Kareem, or the Horas that is last on your list. I like the look of that one. And the AF pipe has that built in diffuser.. God there are alot of choices. And i didn't know Madgy Zidan had a brass pipe. I looked on their site and there wasn't one listed.

I think with any pipe you get... They will all smoke amazing. They all look pretty amazing, some more than others... wink.gif
Good searching too, i wouldn't even have noticed HC new stock.

Haha, you are. I'm just doing my research now. I'm probably not gonna get it for quite some time!

Hobo: I'm in SB for school and actually live in LA. Perhaps one day I'll drive down and check it out. Edited by MechAnt
