Rotator Hookahs

Recommended Posts

Hmm well my first hookah was a rotator and I had this thing for over a year. It was great at first (well atleast I thought it was since it was my first) but shortly with time it just got more and more problems....the only really good thing ever about it is that it rotated. thats it.

Now its officially "the leaning tower of hookah", what I call it after the welding that attaches the top to the bottom stem gave up and I glued it back together (at a horrible angle).

What I really loved about the rotator is that it was a great party hookah. I would always have 5-7 people in my room smoking out of that thing (puff puff pass). However after getting my Mya 3-hose recently I quickly realized this was the way to go.

oh yeah one major pain in the ass was if you didnt get the water level right it took some time to get more water back in (you have to unscrew the whole thing)

Right then, Rotator Hookahs?
I've heard some good things.
I've heard some bad things.

Mostly issues with filling up the base with water.

So?
Pros and cons anyone?

I own a 36 inch rotator hookah that I got from hookah-shisha.com. I love the thing to death, as it is the tallest hookah I own and it seems to have its own "presence," but there are a few issues I have with it. First of all, from the very first time I smoked with it, it has leaked water. I've tried various water levels, but it just always leaks. I've just come to accept it as a fact of life, as I have heard that this was a common problem with rotators. Also, the welding on mine doesn't seem to be as good as it could be, as the release valve needs to be rewelded (or glued, I haven't really messed with it for a while) onto the hookah. It snapped when I was trying to screw in the vase one time. I really do love it though, the rotating aspect does make things quite convienient when smoking with friends. I'm sure not all rotators are like mine, too, I just thought I would tell you the things about it that caught me off guard. Hope this helps!

No. Don't buy one. Most spin on a tilt. Some are made with shitty steel that tastes like car keys when you smoke. They rust easily. The metal is very thin. And you don't need a rotator at all. Just a long hose.

The only thing i give them is that they are sturdy.

I just bought a rotator (ebay smile.gif (kingofhookah.com 4 hose queen)) as a project, first thing I'm guna do is stop the rotation. Seriously, I have never seen one which has rotated "true", also the seals kinda suck so they are guna have to go, I'm guna try and see if some mya grommets will fit, if not ill have to get some from school. I am thinking of just sealing up the joint where the stem can be broken down, just for some extra sealing. Also thinking of putting a treatment on the metal to keep it away from the water. Not sure what else ill need to do but I'm sure there will be something Edited by bkag

Ohh well can't go wrong with that! SO what exactly are you trying to do? Make it into a Non-rotating rotator that will look very classy and be very sturdy and not rust and be airtight?

You hit the nail on the head there!

Yeah I will for sure, first problem was that the vase came smashed and a little note from the postal service saying "sorry we damaged your package" very unlucky but the smoke shop is replacing the vase and one hose for free and even throwing in 100g of shisha because of the delay smile.gif she is very nice. Ill have to start a thread about it once I get started (once the vase is here) smile.gif

Hahaha yeah it will be but! Ill be smoking my mya while im on the job wink.gif

I'm going to warn you about smoking on the job - unless you're smoking caffeinated Tangiers, you will get horribly sleepy. And in my case, I blank out at the register in the middle of the sale, or find myself almost running to the opposite side of the shop with a $20 in my hand, stop, and wonder exactly what I was doing running with $20 in my hand... o_O Thank god I can redeem myself by spewing hookah facts, but I wonder how long that'll keep working >.<

Yea my first and at the moment only hookah is a rotator. When it rotates its def not smooth, it wobbles a bit. And everytime someone goes to get the hose even though it rotates i always feel like the damn thing is gonna tobble over and fall!! .. but it never has i guess im just paranoid o.O

rotators are awesome for parties, they are hard to knock over and they typically smoke good if u get a good one. yeah, filling them is a bit of a pain, and they are a bit more of a hassle to set up. But the rotating conveniance and stability might possibly outweigh that. Overall though, a good mya saray will satisfy more than a rotator though.

I'm thinking of just buying some transparent tubing to make some ultra-long hoses to stop the danger of knocking the hookah over.
I guess I don't really need a rotator, some long hoses should be good for a party, right?

Instead of having a rotator, me and my friends put our hookahs on lazy suzans. Those rotating plates for cheese and shit. cover the plate with foil so mom doesn't get mad when you burn a hole in her pretty little cheese plate, and voila. It has all the benefits of a rotater (rotating) and none of the drawbacks. that way when a dumb drunky pulls on your hose it doesn't tip.

Can I suggest buying a regular hookah that's well made and durable and putting the bloody thing on a lazy-susans? You know, one of those 80's turn-y things they still have in the middle of tables at Chinese restaurants around the country. Instant rotation on a classic well made hookah.

I was just about to say that. lol

Why not use a lazy susan... that'd work great... it has worked great! Even better with that rubberized shelf liner stuff underneath the hookah to keep the pipe in place.

They even have fire retardant stuff too:

But your best bet is to go to a place like Bed Bath and Beyond or Target etc.
