said that it was equal to 20 ciggs.......riiiiiight...... poor

Write them a letter, and include links to the research studies that
have been done about the effects of hookah smoke compared to
cigarretes.  Not saying it'll do any good necessarily, but they
usually appreciate feedback.  1 bowl is DEFINITELY not equal to 20
cigs...maybe they were thinking in terms of the actual amount of smoke
produced, rather than the amount of chemicals on the whole.
Either way, it seems like a very poorly-researched (or outright biased)
report.  Sadly, a lot of people believe what they hear on TV above
just about anything else.

A buddy of mine smoked 5 ciggs in a row, just one after another, and he was ruined.  The guy has been smoking for some years at that point.  I can't even begin to imagine what 20 will do to ya.

No, they will continue with the anti-hookah B.S. until the whole liberal, heathen practice is completely erradicated from our oh, so, free country. Reminds me of all the right-winger christian "culture of life" lemming population.
I'm sorry. I get carried away when my individual freedoms are toyed with by the whole do-good community. Just hide your books because they will be next.

No matter what "free" country you are living in, they will always tell you what to do and how to do it.  There is no more freedom, just the illusion of it.

Uhhh....I think they're talking about nicotine,  because I read a
similair medical article several months ago that stated "one bowl of
hookah tobacco is the equivalent in nicotine to smoking 18
cigarettes."  Whether or not that's true,  I don't know.

I don't buy off on that figure. I smoke 1 cigarette and I don't want another one for a while. I smoke a bowl and depending on the brand, I may want a cigarette within 15 minutes. I'm smoking Al Waha grape right now (just finished the bowl) and am actually satisfied. But 18-20 cigarettes (niccotine content) I wouldn't feel good at all.

no way it is the nicotine of 18 ciggs. nicotine is a very strong drug. look at what happened when people tried to quit when the nicotine patch first came out and they smoked while the patch was stuck to them. people where having heart attacks from nicotine overdose hence the warnings on the patch boxes now telling you not to smoke while you have them on.
if one bowl on shisha had the same amount of nicotine as 18 ciggs their would be people dropping over dead if they smoked a bowl by them selfs and i have yet to hear of a hookah overdose. and if it had happened the fun police would be screaming it from the mountain tops.

Yeah,  when I was smoking 10 to 15 bowls a day I didn't feel any
heart attack symptoms,  though I was experiencing a lot of lung
congestion and coughing.  I think I was coughing-up fluids from my
lungs.....nah,  that can't happen,  can it?  Oh well, I
was coughing up fluids from somewhere,  but I wasn't getting any
headaches.  Definitely smoking 10 to 15 bowls a day has GOT to be
bad for you

I'm glad I stopped before it caused any serious damage,  because I
was SERIOUSLY addicted.  But,  I'm only glad for my
health,  I still get unbelievable temptations to smoke the
hookah.  But the only reason I don't go out and buy another is
because my treadmill just arrived and I've been riding it 2 to 3 times
a day,  for 20 minutes each time.  I don't think I would be
able to handle the workouts AND smoke 15 bowls a day.  I'm already
smoking my pipe,  and I'm hoping that the 2nd hand smoke I breathe
in doesn't effect my health too negatively in relation to my workouts.

I tend to agree with the health experts that hookah smoking is bad for
your health,  but if done in moderation I don't believe it can
kill you like cigarettes can. I've never heard of anybody getting
emphasema from smoking a hookah.

Good to hear your putting that treadmill to use. Its hard to force
yourself to keep up with your workouts (I know from exp), but you MUST
stick with it. Since quiting hookah (especially 10-15 bowls a day
worth), you should be able to notice a jump in your stamina level
fairly soon, if not already. As long as you keep with your workouts, it
will get much easier in the future.

My hookah habits have never interfered with my workouts, never destroyed my stamina nor did it ever make me fatigued, but I guess everyone's different. How would you smoke 10-15 bowls a day!? That's like smoking for 15-20 hours, if not more. That's crazy! But it's good to hear that you've calmed down a bit, keep up the work outs!Jon
