Molson
hmmm i took in everyones information no doubt about that. i was gonna get half a box of golden and half a box of 3king.....but hookah-shisha only sells golden so i decided to go with that and not the discounted ones i was originally going to go with (sone quick lighting that was 8bucks for 100 and lasted between 20-30 min) as for the tobacco...except for the premium kind that my hookah comes with (roman) im very reluctant to get any more as if they catch it that 18 cents a gram. so what im going to do is write down all these brands and i belive there is a bunch of arabic and persian stores on Young street in my area (for those of you who don't know young street is the longest street in the world strectching from the bottom of our country (roughly toronto) to the top (no clue what city). very popular street with a subway line and everything.....gotta be some ma'ssel there

HookahCulture
I just wanted to toss in my 2 cents. Although I prefer finger coals, if you're in a bind or bring your hookah somewhere that doesn't allow for preparing natural/finger coals, then 3 kings or goldens do just fine. Those are the top brands for this type of coal. BUT PLEASE READ ON. Yeah you knew there was a BUT.... Some important notes though: Be sure the coals are completely red FOR A FEW MINUTES before applying them to your bowl to allow impurities to burn off! This is important! Blow on them all over and don't miss any spots! Instant placement immediately after ignition results in crap flavor. There are some quick-lites to AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! It's the brand with the minarets on the box. These are TOTAL CRAP. They're a pain to light because they need babysitting during ignition, they don't last long AT ALL, and they taste like tailpipe when you DO finally get them on. In case any of the new people were thinking about it, don't use BBQ charcoal briquettes! These contain dangerous chemicals through and through. King Tut's in Tempe, Arizona uses KINGSFORD and this is a total hookah crime. On another note, many people have had PERFECT experiences from grabbing (not in the literal sense of course!) some red coals from the bottom of your campfire! Especially true with cedar, pine, or other conifer wood. I would avoid coals from fires of contruction woods as these have been treated chemically. When in doubt, GO NATURAL. jmexx
There's a lot of rage here, considering you're all hookah smokers. Ha, all I can think of when I'm smoking the hookah is which flavour I plan on using and obviously the spruced conversation between me and my friends. Show the love folks. The perks of being Canadian, it's very difficult to get upset . Happy smoking bro,Jon

jmexx
Molson, I found a hookah directory that has hookah lounges in Toronto. They may not sell the hookahs or ma'assel but at least you'll be able to test some different flavours out before buying. If you get friendly enough with them you can ask where they got their tobacco and what kind it is. Happy smoking!Jon

mushrat
wow you guys are awsome.. (not being sarcastic) thank you very much so cypress- i did do some research after u mentioned it (sorry for not doing it before) and as you said 24.32 is a good size. so that definitly turned me off the pocket ones, unfortunatly the price and size won't work for me but i did look at bigger ones then a pocket size
Math, you also missed him saying price was an issue. so what you consider the "very best" wasn't in his budget in the first place, and your continued insistance that he go premium all the way was really a waste of time, since, as I've said before, not everyone is willing or able to spend money they really don't have on this fine pasttime. SO while Yashman's methods were a bit strong, his objection was quite valid. You're WAY out of line. $.
Mathazar
I always realised that price was an issue for him, that was quite obvious judging by the price of the hookah he was going to buy. And, I see yours and Yashman's point about not pushing newbies in the direction of Premium. And I further realise that I'm a bit of an EXTREME eccentric because I'll spend hundreds of dollars right down to my last bit of spare change so that I can get the BEST stuff available that will last me until I get my next monthly payment. I realise that I'm not being very practical by pointing newbies in the direction of buying only Premium, and giving Molson the idea that it's Premium or NOTHING......because the low-end stuff SUCKS!!! I'm sorry for pissing people off in this thread, I didn't mean to get tempers flaring. But, I've always been the type of person, even outside of my Hookah Life, that when looking for something to buy, I live by the belief that when you buy cheap you get cheap. That's not always true, but it's been my experience in life that when you THINK PREMIUM you often times GET PREMIUM. When I go out looking for an apartment, I'll look at what I can't afford first, and then work my way down from there. With that method, I feel I'm more likely to find a Gem QUICKER than if I start in the low-range. I've found the same thing to be true with Ma'assell & Cigars. I started out smoking the cheap stuff only to find that most of what I found was barely smokable. I wasted time and money by researching the low-end brands, only to come to the realization that the Premium stuff was of MUCH higher quality tobacco and tasted FAR better than the cheap stuff. I will ALWAYS believe that because I've done my research and that is what I have found to be true. By actively pushing Molson in the Premium direction, I TRULY believed that I was doing him a favor so that he wouldn't have to waste his time & money researching every single brand out there. Do you realise how discouraging that can be to a person on a budget? Yashman thought that Molson might find that he likes some of the lower-end stuff. Well, that may possibly be true. But, why not taste the Premium stuff first, so that you have a guideline to compare the lower-end stuff to. Why did I push him toward Premium? Because I felt that Molson would come to appreciate the fact that by buying LESS of the Premium ma'assell, he would have a better smoking experience than if he were to buy MORE of the low-end stuff. Doesn't that make sense? That way, in the long run, he's actually saving money. Because the Premium ma'assell is BOUND to taste FAR better than the low-end stuff. Molson was planning on buying a TON of the Nakhla & Al-Waha and some low-grade charcoal to last him a LONG while. What he probably would have found-out was that it may have been a better idea buying LESS by going Premium, and that way he would have stayed in his budget and had a fair sum of ma'assell to smoke. As he said, he was only planning on smoking a VERY small amount per week. So, had he gone Premium with Romman he would have no doubt had a positive experience that he could look forward to everytime he puts that hose to his mouth. That's what I experience everytime I smoke Romman, it's SHEER excellence. I feel about Romman the same way most people around here feel about Al-Fakher, it's PREMIUM stuff. Why do they charge more for it than the Nakhla, because it's BETTER tobacco! But, once again, I didn't mean to piss anyone off. And I'm sorry if you think I'm "WAY" out of line, but I gave you my reasons for doing what I did, and I'm sticking by my beliefs of how I handled myself in that situation with Molson
Mathazar
Oh.......and I have NO IDEA why you're not able to post anything in the subject lines. I'm just a Moderator around here, I have nothing to do with the design or administration of this website. For your answers, you're going to have to somehow connect with the Admin, adrock5150. But, considering the fact that he's rarely ever here, and hasn't left an email address for us to contact him at, I don't see your problem being resolved anytime soon. Mathazar
Alright, I get the point. Mathazar
Geeze........in trying to ban BADASS, I altered my own Moderator privedges somehow. Can one of the other moderators please go into my profile, I forgot what catagory it's under, but there's a section at the bottom of the screen that says: Active User Yes/No Will you please put the dot in the "Yes" selection for me? Thanks! Or else somebody else tried to ban me.......I doubt that's the case, but it's always a possibility..........I'm sorry if I've angered people in my posts lately
Mathazar
Hmmm....nevermind, I don't know what's going on, I've lost all moderator privedges, plus I can't even update my own profile page. The system keeps logging me out for some reason. What a bummer!
