i tend to pack as much as a i can by smashing it down in the bowkl, also put a bit of milk in the base, it makes thicker clouds IMO

i have always just sprinked let in just under the phunnel and do 2 rows of holes and a big on in the center. break up 2 33 mill 3 kings coals into 8 sections and put over the bowl it smokes for awhile? is this a normal setup or am i doing it wrong??

I advise you nto to put a hole in the center with Non-Tangiers tobacco. It will think out the smoke and lessen the flavor because it is getting mixed with air. If you had a Mod for your phunnel you should just do the two rows, as you stated.
And when you split the coal up more than 1/2 it burns extremely quickly and the heat is not concentrated as much as if the coal was whole, so you get less smoke for lack of heat, and your coals die out much, much faster.
I put two 33mm coals directly across from each other. It heats it very well, leads to great clouds, strong flavor, and all your shisha isn't baked at once, so you can move coals around.
