Hamilton
Hello everyone, Some may remember me, some may not. But I used to be active here. Still puffing hookah like a mad man but this problem is killing me. I have two hookahs, a 30inch egyptian and a mya QT. Both have the same problem of acrid tasting smoke with a light undertone of whatever flavor i'm smoking. In this case Tangier nectorine. My setup is a Khalil hose, Small phunnel bowl and Chinese quick lights.Normally i'll use 3 quarters of a brick spread around the bowl to start, then 2 x2 bricks once its been going awhile. But the smokes always the same, not harsh, just acrid, it leaves a dry feeling in my mouth with very little tobacco flavoring and all around an unejoyable smoke. I've tried cleaning the pipes using a pipe cleaning solution and a pipe scrubber with no luck in improving the flavor. My only thought is that it could be the fact I'm not waiting until the coals are entirely lit and have lost the silver coating they come with. Does anyone have a suggestion or experience with anything like this? Thanks in advance.
ZenSilk
I do reccomend waiting for the silver foil to be burned off, but you can also scrape it off to be quicker. Sam qith QL coals without silver, wait til the are red hot. It sounds like you have too much heat. Smoke quality isn't really based off the hookah per say, more of how you are using it and setting it up. You're not using a pumpkin or aluminum pipe so you should be good. Tangiers is also difficult to get ised to, and if you burn it it dos have a rather strong bad taste, theres countless threads on how to get Tangiers to smoke great. Try some different tobacco maybe? Tangiers flavorings are always vivid and unmistakeable.
laxstriker52
When i smoke i use three kings quick lights and start smoking before they are red hot the only thing that results from it is thin smoke that doesn't have a lot of flavor but once the coal heats up and the chamber fills with a nice thick white smoke the flavor triples in strength. Hamilton
I can smoke Tangiers pretty well. I may have not packed quite enough tobacco into the bowl. but this has been happening with other brands of tobacco as well. I'm starting to think its something in my hookahs doing it. ZenSilk
Huh... That's kinda odd. When you look down the Stems is there any gunk in there? Scrub out the hearts of your hookahs, where the downstem goes intou, there will be 2 holes in your egyptian, and a big open space in your mya. Huskysibe
Let the silver burn off the coals. Also what about your hose? Do you use the same hose for all flavors? Mint will get into a hose and ruin the taste for all your other flavors. I have a mint/chocolate hose and a hose just for fruit flavors. Billyyeah, I do just use one hose, but it's never used mint. Can using a single hose cause problems in getting a clean flavor?
rbyers
How old is your hose/is it washable? Use different coals maybe? Get some naturals and try that out, and maybe try buying new shisha. Yours could be... from a bad batch? maybe it has a shisha disease.
Gaara
Change coals and completely lit them before smoking.
Hamilton
haha, don't insult tangier. I got my batch from him, made it was I was standing over his shoulder attempting to learn his secrets - got the hose from him too. No more then 2 months old each - sadly with minimal use. - no, its not a washable hose, leather khalil. Allia22
Really, it may be your hose. Suck through your unconnected hose and see if it tastes nasty.
