First Time Hookah Help?

IMHO, you should skip that hookah... You can get the same for a better price from another vendor... Just shop around in the review section. I think Nazar Hookah carries some.

If you want something that feels really sturdy and solid (my personal preference) go with a MYA or a Syrian.

As far as that acrylic, my MYA acrylic is my favorite hookah by far... but I dunno if you will get the same performance out of this obvious knock off...

The deals are out there. I got the acrylic for 50 bucks on this forum actually.

REVISED: Just got the hang of the hookah after a week and I want to give a better opinion.

That comes with free 250 g Nakhla shisha (unless the promotion ended) and you can call in to request your favorite flavor or else mixed fruit is what they give you. I also ordered Canary Imports Authentic Japanese coal for $15 - see my review - these are the best coals you can get. Well worth every penny. I hear good things in the review forum about the Chinese imitiation too and they cost $7.

This hookah smokes very well, stem looks nice, base is looks good too. Nice and tall - VERY functional. You get something more expensive than these - you'll be payinig for looks / decoration rather than a better smoking experience.

The standard Egyptian bowl holds 15 g shisha and will last for 30-40 minutes depending on your heat management. With this set up, I get excellent results with a single piece of 3, quarter squares. Earlier I didn't manage my coals well and foolishly blamed it on the bowl. My bad. Clean the stem and dry it after each use and this functional hookah will last you for a long time. If you want longer burn times / performance - everyone in this forum highly touts the Tangiers medium funnel (which I may get, haven't used it yet). The funnel is not a requirement for great smoke sessions over the standard bowl as I had previously thought.

Don't get the Mya "washable" hose after seeing the forum thread that they are no better than the hose you're getting. Total is 50 hookah +7 coals +7 shipping + 4 tax + free shisha = $68 for an excellent, complete package. Take the forum discount and its for $60! Highly recommended, great value! Call in and ask to have your stem NOT to be packed into the glass vase. Only criticism is that vase is regular glass and not acrylic. Edited October 23, 2007 by thegreengoblin707

The Sphynx is a really nice hookah. I just bought my first hookah from H-S and they are really good with customer service, you may be able to fina better price for the hookah itself, but witha ll the free stuff you get with H-S it's a really safe bet. i would get this hookah if I were you, except maybe get a 2 hose, just in case. single hose Egyptians can't convert to 2 but it's up to you. I really like egyptians, except that there is no auto-seal, so you have to thumb it, and if it comes with cobra hoses they are kinda weird to hild at the neck to thumb it rather then holding it at the handle

Get a Khalil Mamoun.

Always thought that they were overrated in these forums (much like the phunnel which I still think is) but they smoke like a dream. May not be as pretty as the likes of the AF and other Hookahs but it smokes well.
