Tangiers Funnel: Deciding Large Vs Medium

Recommended Posts

Can you just fill the large funnel with the amount of shisha that a medium can hold and have same results? Wouldn't mind extra space so I can comfortably pack and the coal isn't too close to shisha and burn it. Obviously if that extra space messes up the hookah session or causes less smoke etc then that's a problem. Now the most obvious benefit of the large funnel is you can fill it with 70 g - lots of shisha but I'll never fill near that capacity. I doubt my session will even last 2 hours and after that point I'd rather repack anyway. I just want a COMFORTABLE 90 minutes where I am NOT smoking ash. I want my set up to be easy to manage as possible. Can the large funnel do what the medium can do + more? Thanks for your help. Edited by thegreengoblin707

I have a large phunnel, and its ridiculously huge. Get a medium if its what you think you want.

For your heat management, try using those two coals on separate sides of the bowl like you described, and use a windcover. They do wonders. If thats too much later on, take it off. If two coals get to be too much, just use one. It usually takes a little extra heat or something for thick clouds to start flowing quickly, but after that it doesn't take nearly as much to keep it going.

I have the small Phunnel w/mod and smoke for about an hour and half . I usually put close to 25 grams in it. there isn't really much different in size between the small and medium but the large is freaking huge.

There is various threads that discuss the sizes of the Phunnel. here is one

But to answer the thread question I would go with the medium before the large. Edited by waterboi

If I were you I would work on getting the heat management down on a basic bowl first

You were right. I received my hookah less than a week ago and got overly zealous. While I did learn how to a work a hookah in college (I sure made the most out of tuition hahaha!), this is really the first time I'm using Japanese coals. Only today did I get the hang of these coals and had a great smoke session - 40 minutes on the 15 g standard Egyptian bowl with clouds of flavored, smooth smoke. I wrongly blamed the Egyptian bowl. I should have spent more time patiently learning rather than zealously spouting away questions. Sorry about that. I intend on smoking Zaghloul for short sessions just to get the buzz - so standard bowl will be perfect. If hookah company took my last minute request for a medium funnel and sends it to me - that's fine as it'll be handy if I get together with friends for long casual sessions. If they didn't, standard is fine for now. Either way I'm good. Edited by thegreengoblin707

Ditto. The medium is about 1 1/2 coke cans tall maybe a bit shorter, and it holds a lot of tobacco. In my original mya bowl i made some precuts so i wouldn't have to tear foil every session and i couldn't even get my pre-cut foil around my phunnel because it was so wide. Trust me get a medium you won't regret it smile.gif.

Thanks a lot for your advice. Actually, what I've found best is to take a single stick of 3, quarter squares of Japanese coals on a standard Egyptian bowl and move it sideways every 10-15 minutes till the coal reaches from one side to the other. I know this is different the popular set up of users here - but I get thick, aromatic, smooth clouds of smoke for a long time. The difference could be that many smoke inside whereas I smoke outside without a windcover - so your advice comes in handy. Usually with two separate squares - the coals shrink in size quickly and aren't glowing red (wind!). My current set up works great even without a windcover but I'll use a tin can later on if it gets too too windy. So your suggestion was very good. I LOVE these coals!

Yep, that does it. Whenever I order a funnel, medium will be plenty! If the web sites did not give different specs for the funnel. I would not have started this thread in the first place. Medium would have been a crystal clear choice. Sorry to take up everyone's time with an unnecessary thread - I got overly zealous. Will be more patient next time! laugh.gif Thanks!
