Hate To Ask This...but It Must Be Done.

Recommended Posts

First of all let me say, I've read EVERY post I can find on the subject. I've done all the research I think I can squeeze so please don't take this as a newb too lazy to read. I've been considering what to do for my next hookah. I started off with a Super Hookah and it is already starting to fall to pieces so I'm trying to decide what to get. I've basically narrowed it down to two very different hookahs, the mya chic/qt or the KM Large. Here's my question. Everyone says that smoke is not based on the hookah but based on the heat management and such and that the only difference is that the smoke will be a bit warmer w/ a smaller hookah. How much are we talking about here? I will be the only one using this hookah 90% of the time but I do want great smoke, that is key here. Will ice in the base eliminate the heat? The price difference between the two is very small however the key is the size. If its worth the extra size to get the KM, its gorgeous so I'm ok with that but if I'm not gonna see much smoke difference that a nice little chic would fine. The reason I ask this is that even though everyone here seems to love their big egyptians, as I look through the reviews the overwhelming majority of them are the mya qt so apparently the smoke is pretty good! Anyway, just looking to shed some light on this. Thanks guys!

well the myas and km will both smoke very well im not sure about the chic but i have no problem with heat on my qt. if i am smoking a bowl on it i can put it on my tall egptian and it wont be any hotter on the mya. so this brings it to price and appearance. the myas are going to cost less and i think ive heard some problems with the km hose. either way youll probably have to replace the hoses sooner or later. the myas are going to be awesome for transporting and youll dread carrying the km everywhere so if youre just going to be smoking at your home id go for the km. hope that helps

Yeah, Mya's are good. People say they are crap. But I guess if you have a Mya, and you get it to smoke like a KM, your just super talented? cool.gif

I wouldn't hesitate buying a Mya, i would say go for a Mya Acrylic. I've got one, and i love the thing to death. i don't like Mya QT 's that much, but maybe they are worth a shot? I've used one a bunch of times, they are fine. But i say buy a Mya Acrylic or good egyptian, like a KM (HookahCompany.com has a bunch of nice ones).

Smaller hookahs = more carbon monoxide.

Now how in the world do you figure that?

Most of the cooling goes on in the hose I'd say. So a longer hose would mean cooler smoke. The standard Mya washable is a pretty long hose so the size of the hookah probably wont make much of a difference.

I don't figure it -- some study was done comparing CO levels in smoke from large and small hookahs, and those were the findings. I forget exactly what the figure was... it was something like smoke from larger hookahs has 1/4 the amount of CO. It's been posted and talked about multiple times... use the search, man! laugh.gif

Touche. Had i known you were quoting some other unrelaible report... cool.gif

Probably the same report that said smoking hookah for an hour was like 100 cigarettes...but I'll see if i can find it none the less. Personally, I think that's inaccurate. you are using the same coal on the same bowl in a sealed container, CO levels shouldn't be different but then again, I'm no scientist...

I mean, there's always room for error in a study like that, but they did test 3 or 4 different sized hookahs and the results all indicated a consistent correlation between hookah size and CO content. Still, even with the chance of the experiment being flawed, it's the only insight we have into the issue and I'm willing to go with it just to be on the safe® side.

edit: I wasn't trying to be rude by not posting the link, btw... I just can never find the damn thing laugh.gif

edit2: This was the best I could do: http://www.hookahforum.com/index.php?s=&am...st&p=128488

Oh, yeah, go with the KM. Myas hit like girly nerds! You'll notice more of a difference, however, not in the quality but rather the delivery of the smoke. Khalil Mamoun hookahs tend to have nice wide airways, allowing for a nice easy pull (given your hose is also wide and the bowl you're using isn't cloggin up...)

I agree that KM are great (Its the only good hooakh I own). I got the free mya acryic, but the stem does not fit tight and I fear that it will tip over. Although I really want to get a chic also because I hate how I have to stand to manage coals (I put my KM on my coffee table, and my futon is under a loft)

From what it sounds like. you will mostly be using this by yourself probably. how often do you plan to smoke? i havent had a large hookah myself, but my friends do, some of them live together so a large hookah is optimal. i however, keep my mya chic on my desk. I need to take pictures/videos to really let you decide how well it smokes (i just got a new phone and ill try this tonight maybe if i remember it). I personally dont really recall getting better smoke off of anything else, but i also havent spent months smoking other hookahs so... Ill let you know what i use on a daily basis:
Mya Chic
Nammor Hose
Small Phunnel bowl

The tobaccos i use:
Tangiers
Starbuzz
Layalina
Nakhla (i have it but havent used it yet, got it free from HC)

First of all guys thanks for all the replies. I appreciate all the help. To sum up I will mostly be smoking alone. As far as I can see the only reason people have really went for the KM is the pull is easier is that correct? I see a lot of votes for the KM but a lot don't have reasons, care to explain?

Yep, the pull is super easy, just as effortless as breathing. You'll appreciate it more once you've smoked through something with tiny airways. Also, the construction of the thing's top notch! No sloppy soldering, tilt (with mine, anyway), etc. It gives you the impression that with the proper care it will last many years. All in all, a quality piece I'm proud to own smile.gif

Once again, im gonna pull for the QT hookah type again because i have one and dont have a KM. I have had a small Chinese and i cant believe i ever smoked out of it. With my Nammor hose it is like breathing also like they said about the KM. It's a solid hookah and i think whatever you buy you will be happy with.

MYA and KM are the 2 biggest names on the forum. They are both great manufactures! I will probably get a KM sometime to have a nice large hookah, but i will always smoke my Chic on a daily basis i think because of its size.

hey
well the best hookah? it depend on the use. for personal use, i tired most of them, and the one that i personally enjoy is a cage hookah. it s medium, portable and it smoke great if you take care of it nicely. ie, cleaning and freshing it. that s besides egyptiens, comes the cage hookah.
