cohlineman
There are flame proof hearth rugs,Large round tin trays, those nice expensive ones at the middle eastern shops,The throw away aluminum trays at the restaurant supply house,I use the largest rubber SUV cargo compartment mat I could find at pep boys...NOT flame proof but it will buy you a minute to pick up errant coals. Rolls up and stores behind the bed or couch like good exercise equipment.
leadpipecinch21
go to your local rug store, ask the person who's working there if they have any scraps that are like 2x2 or 3x3 or whatever size you feel is necessary. have them cut a hole in the center(or do it yourself) that's the size of your hookah's base, then you're good to go. GolovA
NO! All wrong! )Get yourself a Persian Rug. Persian Narghiles look very good on those! PLUS! When the coal falls on it - it burns in beautiful, red flame!!!

mdl
I use an 18"x18" square tile. They can be found for as little as $3.95 at hardware stores and they don't look all that bad. If you want to cover a bit more space buy more but don't step on them whilst on the soft carpet; they will probably crack.

nada
humm... I am such a ambient conscious person, and love the persian rug idea...but not the burning part.if I bring `it` to carpeted area, for instance, I will need a covering.maybe those thick rubber used at gyms made to protect floors from falling free weights?Maybe it will protect the hookah in a fall as well? But are they coal friendly? or will it burn toxic fumes?Such ugly choice tho!Shisha at gathering needs preparation for mishaps... but seem like a must! Now I wanna get several hookahs going......... I have two now.. than I can belly dance, and there goes the magic!
shisha fan
we used to have those fireproof rugs in chemistry class and they`re ugly as hell, but on the other side they will draw all attention towards your hookah.
HarryTheHookaMaster
I use an Islamic Prayer rug. I got it in Iraq...I don't care if it gets burned (it has a burn mark or 2 from coals) and it looks good...Harry
