GolovA
Let me try to lead you, guys, into the topic as smoothly and swiftly as possible to avoid boring you to death …The nervous system of the human body is vast and complex. The human brain houses 100’s of billions of neurons, and Quadrillions of synaptic “knots”. Most of the information that we get from the world around us gets into our brain through visual cortex – our eyes being the primary information collectors (we perceive about 90% of the world through out eyes). Blind people, however, perceive most information by ear and touch (auditory and textile perception); their ears and fingers are very sensitive. This being said… Most of us have closed our eyes when we smoke to reduce and even cut altogether the constant stream of visual information and to sharpen our other 4 senses. However, our nervous system is chained in such a way that after cutting off visual perception it primes (jumps to) the auditory perception, and heightens its functionality. Thus, we don’t really begin to feel the taste of smoke better or smell it better… Not yet, at least… BUT! If you now close your ears – you begin to really notice the difference: The smells become more pronounced; the taste – better outlined and felt! I noticed this effect when I was sitting in front of my laptop smoking hookah and playing with a music software. I was wearing headphones (good quality things, that blocked most of the peripheral sound). The difference was amazing – I could taste so much better. Plus, factor in the BUZZ effect… and you are really in a higher state of perceptual smoking! Edited October 29, 2007 by GolovA

RayVer
I know your statement of blind people having their brain use the other senses but I've heard this doesn't happen instantly. Just because you cover your ears and cover your eyes doesn't mean your brain will auto switch instantly. I've heard it takes people a few hours to a few days for their brain to concentrate on the alternate senses....i guess theres only one way to find out.. everyone try it and post! GolovA
The change takes time indeed. But that change is aimed at increasing your senses to unbelievable degrees.Closing your ears will already make you notice the difference. Imagine how sensitive blind people are Never say shit about them in a 2-mile radius!Never say shit about people anyway... Just think it!

Too bad I already smoked tonight. So much of smoking hookah is a visual experience, I wonder if it would be better to just close your ears instead of your ears AND your eyes. See when i smoke hookah and close my eyes i start moving some where - a sensasion that i don't really like. I close my eyes from time to time, but otherwise, i keep them open in search a prey... WHAT?! Yeah, so. Try it and let us know. As this post shows, people have diferring sensetivity (or just their nerve endings burned to shit, right, Anathema? )
