Crysis

I don't know how many of you guys are gamers... But I run both Vista 64-bit and XP 32-bit. I was really looking forward to Crysis becuase of its amazing directX 10 effects. Well... despite me running a fairly efficent machine (Core2Duo 2.4, Nvidia 8600 gt 512, 4 gigs of ram) Crysis runs like shit in Vista, can barely run it on medium. On XP, runs smooth as a baby's bottom on high. Kind of a drag. A big screw you to MS for developing a horribly inneficent OS.

Anyways, to those of you that have played it, what are your thoughts? As a fan of Crytech, I freakin love it, but, I may be a bit biased tongue.gif .

Not really a big fan of Mac OS. The same company that makes the hardware, makes the software. That leads to huge issues of unchecked quality, stagnating markets, rapid inflation.... If anything, MS should have continued developing the XP platform, but they saw fit to do otherwise. Don't get me wrong, there are many good things one can say about vista. Being efficient with resources... is not one of them.

I played the demo several times with different overclocking setups. I'm using a laptop with C2D T7300 (2ghz), Nvidia 8600m GT, 2gb ram, 160gb HD, and 1440x900 WXGA+. Stock, I get about 8-10 FPS on all medium and GPU overclocked to 565 and 446 (core and memory respectively) and now get a consistent 15 to 19 FPS. The overclock effectively brought my 3DMark06 score from 3420 up to 4000. Helps tremendously. Also, as of right now Crysis is only running 60% of the processor in both cores and public announcements state that they are working on 100% core utilization and they specifically said that the CPU will be more of a bottle neck than anything else. There is hope! Crysis should be going gold in the next few days and the game's resource utilization will be much better. Its not the OS's fault at all, its just the demanding nature of DX10 with the shaders and whatnot in addition to the lack of efficiency in the coding. Look at UT3. They are running DX10 and 100% core usage and it plays wonderfully! The Unreal Engine is coded extremely well and I hope for the same with the Crytek2 Engine.

You over clock your laptop? blink.gif I don't know about you, but with the combo of my Nvidia and core2duo the damn thing runs hot enough that its uncomfortable to have in my lap! If I were to over clock mine I'm pretty sure it would vaporize itself. And yes, I will try the final release on vista, but it's sad that a game designed for Vista and direct x 10 AT THIS POINT runs smoother on XP, albeit minus the cool direct X 10 effects.

I only overclock the graphics card not the processor. Plus, my chassis is VERY efficient at cooling and and the highest temp i've ever had with it was 63 degrees Celsius and that was from 3DMark06. Heat really isn't trouble at all because the driver would fail before the card can even kick it into gear. Edited by MechAnt

And for those of us with laptops not made by big companies and having nvidia chipsets, that mean going to some third party site and getting a modded .inf for the installer because nvidia fails at supporting its mobile customers. Meh...

MmMmMm Crysis is sickkkkk. Just looking at videos of it makes me drool. I'm still running a 2004 system, I gotta upgrade all my shit to PCI-X when I can get the money. Processor and mobo come first, then PSU, then video, then sound. In that order. Vista blows donkey balls. I'm staying with XP until AT LEAST Service pack 1, if not longer. I'm not a Beta Tester for shit's sake. This is my rig not some MS play toy.
