Nakhla Zaghloul: Where Is The Buzz?

What a disappointment. I was hoping to get an ass kicking! First, I smoked it with a screen on top for 10 minutes. Did 10 straight, heavy puffs without breathing much. Felt nothing. Then I remove the foil and the shisha is hard, black cake. I repack and this time put the coal without foil or screen (Golden Canary Japanese Coals - full stick) . It is directly on the shisha. Get somewhat thicker smoke but again - I feel no more than a very light, faint buzz for a minute and recover. As expected, the shisha smelled like raisins. Thickness of clouds was 1/3 the density of Nakhla Strawberry.

Yes, my bowl is small (standard Egyptian 15 g). Still should have felt something within 10 minutes, right? I've gotten buzzed with Nakhla Margarita & Strawberry for several minutes early in a session (within 10 minutes). Will try again on Thursday. I am not a heavy smoker to have any developed tolerance. Maybe I'll have to get a LARGE Tangiers original bowl and put LOTS of coal to get thicker clouds. What's all this buzz with the Zaghloul? Edited October 31, 2007 by thegreengoblin707

do not rush the buzz. Take some time to some the bowl and not in 10 mins like you said before. But if you want a buzz and thicker smoke. Try under packing the bowl and load up the coals. Get the bowl hot. Then 20-30 mins of smoking you should feel something.

I'll pack a mountain on my standard bowl (very small for Zaghloul) and the put the coal on top and smoke longer. If that doesn't work, will order a larger Tangiers bowl to be able to put more shisha and more coals for more heat. Smoke is smooth with foil, gets noticeably harsher w/o foil but still manageable. Zaghloul gives off a bigger buzz than tangiers, or tangiers F-line FYI.

Keep in mind that what creates a buzz for some... won't have any effect on another.

It's mostly down to personal tastes, preferences and tolerances.

THICK clouds increase chances of a buzz for just about anyone. To get that, you need a LOT of heat with this particular shisha (as you know) and it already burns out much faster than Strawberry. Looks like I won't be able to put off ordering a new larger bowl for another time Edited October 31, 2007 by thegreengoblin707

true dat but the buzz is really important. why else do a lot of people take cheap alcoholic drinks over coca cola? cheap alcoholic drinks taste like crap (not the expensive stuff mixed with something) but it gives you a buzz. maybe this analogy doesn't work. to be honest, the zaghloul smoke actually tastes fine (didn't sample enough) but the shisha itself smells like sweaty socks with raisins as tangiers so accurately described. if you're smoking with a lot of people, flavor comes first. if you're smoking with a small group, without the buzz, things are not as fun imo. no, i don't. i find cigarettes to smell awful. the only thing i smoke is hookah. had my first real smoke of hookah exactly a year ago in fact (i know this because it was a college birthday party for someone)! even that, in college i smoked maybe twice a month. didn't smoke for 3 months when i came home then decided to buy a hookah for occasional smoking. so far, i'm eager so i'm definitely smoking often since two weeks ago when it arrived. once i get a satisfying smoke with good buzz, then i'll make it more occasional. i think my problem is not getting thick clouds of smoke...i eagerly and prematurely shared my first experience with zag. i should have waited before making the thread. but even then i'm not sure if it'll do better than strawberry nakhla. so far they both feel the same except one has thicker smoke.

when i did start off with hookah in college, nakhla strawberry would give me a good buzz for 5-10 minutes. very relaxing and enjoyed it! just about 3 months ago last time i smoked in college - nakhla margarita kicked the shit out of me! but that happens only occasionally and only if i deliberately put lots of coal to make it harsh but maximum thickness 8/10 times with similar set up, shisha won't give me a buzz. occasionally it does. i was hoping zaghloul would be a sure thing. a lot of times NOW i won't even blink with nakhla strawberry or margarita.
