thegreengoblin707
I used this stuff quite often in the laboratory back in college but that is obviously not available to residents. Btw, is this what all the shisha comes soaked in? I did a google search and searched pharmacies, couldn't get a product tha was pure glycerol. ahwahoo2006
Corn syrup (the big brand name is Karo, I believe) should be a fairly good substitute. Shisha, however, is usually soaked in honey (Romman) or Molasses (most other brands) or something else (not sure what Tangiers does). But if you want pure stuff, I found it on ebay in about 2 secondsLink (no pops)

thegreengoblin707
Thanks for the ebay link - I will decide what to use with my own discretion of course! Yikes! Well everyone here that talks about Zaghloul says they mix it in glycerol. Not sure if this stuff is designed or appropriate to be smoked - maybe a byproduct could harmful. So when people used Mushrat's "indian dirt" they used honey. I'm really asking to use with my Zag - I don't want to burn up my entire pack without it. Some say that Zag with glycerol is the way to go. does honey make shisha last longer or smoke better (my primary purpose). thanks! mushrat
SB and HH are also Honey based for the record.Glycerine has become harder to find in bulk since 9/11 because it can be used to make explosives. Used to be you could get it in big bottles at your average drug store. Mkae sure it is food grade and not just vegitable glycerine.
thegreengoblin707
what are tangiers and nakhla based on? i did not realize that honey, molasses, and glycerol were so similar. in that case, first i'll try molasses, then honey, and as a last resort, look for good based glycerine (good advice). thanks! thegreengoblin707
Yes, please do! It is likely that you use different tobacco and so each is an individual case, but I'm sure I can learn a few things from your recipes anyway. I myself have Nakhla as the standard with current flavors strawberry, double apple, and margarita. I find the strawberry to be on the dry side so I want to soak it in honey and / or glycerine. I'd like to hear your recipes. Thanks!

Thanks!so far what i have been experimenting with is washing al-waha (since i recieved a horrible batch of it) i have been washing the tobacco with some flavoring... starting with no flavoring just to remove the previous flavor.. alot of people reccomend ciggarette tobacco however i would reccomend pipe tobacco unless you have some previous shisha you dont like... (after i run out of the 12 flavors of al waha i got that were useless... i will use pipe tobacco instead of the previous shisha.) after i wash i let it sit for a while in flavorings ( i need to work on this because im having problems getting the flavoring to come through..) after the washing and flavoring.. i add honey and something else (secret for now(most people just use straight honey i feel it makes the tobacco too stickey and after smoked, the shisha way to hard to clean out)) to sweeten the taste and add body to the shisha, and then splash a little glycerine in untill it meets the consistancy of regular shisha.so far i have been pretty successful getting alittle bit of flavor to come out and alot of smoke (some people have recently pointed me in the way of Esters, or artificial flavorins telling me that this should give the flavors i want/need) if i come across any more discoveries i will share them and feel free to share anything you could as well
Gaara
The one I use to buy was this generic one from Rite Aid (its purpose was for personal lubrication). Is that different from the vegetable version?
guyt
Just a suggestion, but did you guys think of using simple syrup, like the one they use in bars? It's sweet, viscus, juicy, and seems like it might be useful.
Gaara
Don't know about you guys but honey took away the flavor of the Shisha even though I only put a little so I wouldn't suggest it.

Scheetz
I bought my Glyc at a local pharmacy. It is a mom and pop type store as the pharmacist is the one who owns the place. I think I paid maybe $4 for a good sized bottle. His last words to me were, "I hope you don't plan on blowing up your building by screwing around with this stuff."I thought it was pretty funny. I explained to him what I was actually using it for and he thought it was a pretty cool idea. Talked a bit about pipe smoking so he understood about me attempting to make my own shisha. Speaking of which, I guess I need to get back to fixing my recipe so my flavor lasts longer.

thegreengoblin707
first i experimented with honey on my nakhla. worked wonders with the nakhla strabwerry, thick clouds of smoke for a long time (although this is also the first time i stirred the shisha so that could be the reason instead - usually i'd take the most moist tobacco to avoid stirring but will stir from now on). it also extended the life of the zaghloul. on the downside, and maybe it is cause i got overzealous with honey (i OBVIOUSLY did), black honey & tar just oozed out of the bowl onto the stem and base. i'm sure adding honey increases tar production big time..so don't overdo it.
