My New Mya Vortex

Recommended Posts

I actually knocked over my Mya Staff the other day in the dark and fully expected to turn on the lights to see it shattered. Fortunately, the only thing I found was an uncracked base and a huge pile of ash on my floor. I'm really impressed because I originally thought this base couldn't take even slight bump. Being glass, it wouldn't surprise me if there was a big variation on the glass quality/thickness even in the same model of base.

you never see O MAN MY ABYSS BLEW UP or MY COLOSSUS SHRUNK!

My abyss rusted through just above the heart and the shaft just toppled over. It was a little over a year old. I replaced it with a MYA staff about six months ago; no problems yet...

I'm expecting my QT soon. Should I worry about that one?
How does it handle ice/cold water or hot water? Could it break?

Don't worry about ice or hot water. Just make sure you put the water in first so you don't accidentaly crack anything.

My new Collosus has a pretty thick glass base with a lot of weight to it. So at least for that model the glass seems fine.

My old QT (bought two years ago) has fallen off a table before without any damage. I haven't seen the new ones to compare the glass.

i got my mya lunar or bohemian today, the glass is very thin and it looks very fragile. so beware of that when you want to buy one.
it is this one: http://www.shisha-world.com/lshop,showdeta...ifen.lunar,.htm

the service from shisha-world was good and shipping took 2 days. they packed everything very good.
i`ll just have to be very careful with it and not put ice cubes in the base.

I feel like maybe my Vortex was just an unusual case, I haven't seen too many people post about having stress fractures occur in their Vortex and that's definetley the cause behind the break. The base itself felt sufficiently sturdy, although I wish they would just use a grommet/rubber seal instead of the screw on stem so that it didn't strain the glass so much and it could break away if it was ever knocked over. I think the Mya Saray store is sending me out a new base this week, so all should be well.
