kitefanatic
Well I just got the replacement base for my QT today (other one broke... obviously), and the difference in quality between the two is night and day. First off, the box said "Made in Romania", but the glass itself said " Made in China". So I'm assuming that the new glass is made by Chinese Romanians. The old base is MUCH thicker and about 2x as heavy. The new base is so paper thin in spots that the colour sometimes disappears altogether! I'm scared to smoke out of it! I wonder if I should just shelf it as a display piece, and rope it off so that no one sneezes next to it and shatters the damn thing! It's a good thing that I have an acrylic coming tomorrow. Of course, since it's also a Mya, it'll probably be made of foam rubber. I took a leave of absence from the forums for a while due to life getting in the way (stupid life), and when I come back, Mya went from "The Shit" to just plain "shit". That sucks. On a similar note, someone mentioned that the Mya washable hoses aren't washable? What happened there?...end rant.

ZenSilk
Nah dude, you will be happy woth the sturdiness of the acrylic, which was a nice choice by the way. But i actually was sent a Mya replacement glass yesterday, my friend wanted me to see if it was the old or new style of glass. It was wrapped in bubble wrap, then peanuts, then foam boards on the inside walls of the tiny box so movement was impossible. I opened it up with a box cutter and while i was removing the tape of the bubble wrap, i squeezed the base a bit too hard i suppose. The piece of shit shattered through the bubble wrap in my hands! My dad's friend, who's this awesome hippy guy who comes and lifts weights in our garage saw it and came over to see what had happened. I told him all about Mya QT hookahs. He looked at the base and said the it couldn't have been hand-made.
cabanapatio
Hey I just bought a new mya qt from HC and I noticed some air bubbles in my vase...signs of a cheaply made glass. I've never seen a qt before but heads up...
hookah hippie
Aww shit I just chose my free hookah, and its a MYA paragon hopefully the more expensive models retain sturdier glass
MechAnt
My MYA acrylic base is heavier than a MYA frosted glass base i felt the other day. Not a good sign. The only glass MYA i'd buy is the NOT frosted glass, those things are tanks! Edited November 8, 2007 by MechAnt
Scoop
guy has a well thought out business model1) make good product2) wait till name spreads out with good rep3) slowly reduce quality to pure garbage4) ????5) profit from people still buying cheaply made garbage

kitefanatic
Well, the acrylic came in today and the base is much better than the glass ones. It feels damn near indestructible. Unfortunately, the hose port on the shaft is smaller than sh*t and looks like it was hot glued in place. Hopefully it can be replaced with a full sized one. Now I just need to get the hose that was supposed to come with it, lol! No worries there though.
