Recommended Posts

Hey guys i just tried my mya bambino for the first time this past weekend.

The smoke just didnt taste rite , i tried with the screen and than with regualr foil <--shinny side down.

is the shisha supose to touch the foil? and actually burn or should i leave more space since this is happening.

i then tried to leave ample space and i got no smoke.

im using the quick lights that came with the setup from H-S.

Pics would be great to help me out

Thanks

Hey,

I'm smoking a bowl of melon-kiwi shisha from a Mya Bambino as I'm typing this... I'll field your question as best I can.

The shisha should never touch the foil - what type of bowl are you using? How many quicklites are you using? How full did you fill the basin? Which type of shisha? How many holes are you punching in the foil, and how big are they?

If you're using the Romman shisha that came with your hookah, with the ceramic mya bowl that comes with it...

pack the bowl about half-full, and make sure that it is loose. There should be enough space between the shisha and the foil for a finger.

For Romman shisha you want to use at least 1 1/2 quicklites on that mother... I use 1 full quicklite and 2 quarters. I personally eschew the "proper screens" that they give you... it just takes too much charcoal to get enough heat through it, and I find foil to be more convenient anyway. I recommend punching as many very-small holes in the foil as you can, especially if you're having trouble getting smoke.

I recommend filling the basin about 1/4-1/2 full.

I really love the bambino- it hits like my 28" Syrian, looks gorgeous, and is super-convenient because of its size.

I'd take some pictures but my camera is in the shop right now, maybe someone else can post some. Hope this is of some help.

Edit: the bad taste you're getting is likely because you're burning the shisha- is it stuck to the foil when you take it off? Edited by gaia.plateau

Well i agree with all that you said except the part i quoted.. my shisha touches the foil all the time and it tastes fine.. sometimes i like a little bit of a gap between the shisha and the foil but not a fingers worth..I just fill it right up to the brim nice and loosley..

That will be the reason for the strange taste then, I think. Sometimes when I use my conservation bowl from smokinghookah.com I don't leave enough room and it burns the shisha, instead of cooking it. It doesn't make it intolerable for me, but definitely a harsher smoke.

Another possibility for the strange taste is with your hose - are you using a Nammor by any chance? I didn't notice a strange taste with my bambino hose on first use, but you never know. If it's not a washable hose, you'll just have to break it in by smoking with it a few times.

In regard to lack of or thinness of your smoke when you leave space between the foil and the shisha, a lack of charcoal is definitely your problem. Romman is a juicy and very rich brand of shisha, so you'll need the extra heat to cook it properly. It's best to experiment with different amounts and types of charcoal at different spots on the foil until you figure out what is right for you. I'd recommend getting a micro-torch for optimum heat management, you can find them on e-Bay for like $5 (as opposed to $30 from hookah-shisha.com).

Apart from that, just experiment with different hole formations in your foil. If ash is getting into the shisha, use smaller holes, if you aren't getting enough heat, make more or bigger holes, etc. The foil-hole-puncher-thingy from hookah-shisha.com works great for your standard ceramic bowl, though if you upgrade to a phunnel it will become useless.

You should by well on your way by now to getting smooth, full smoke from your Bambino! Happy smoking.

Edit: I thought of something else, haha. Be sure to light your charcoals in your tray, then lift them onto the foil. Lighting them on the foil is a sure way to burn your shisha and infuse it with a yucky chemical taste. I didn't think to ask before if you were doing it, and it could be at least partly to blame for both of 2 of your 3 problems. Cheers. Edited by gaia.plateau
