lol..i think the hookahs at the bars here are cleaned like...once a week maybe. sometimes i get this really weird taste, like some water came up the pipe and it tastes horrible metally with some sweetness . they get used so much the water actually foams and turns a ligh yellow.

Thats disgusting. Where the hell do you live?

Hookah is my hobby, not my addiction, some days i feel like smoking, other days I don't. I'm more "addicted" to my guitar playing, then to smoking hookah.

I have not smoked in close to a month.

Addiction is for the weak minded.

Your mind becomes addicted long before your body ever "needs" it. Teach yourself to say "No" and you will never have an issue.

I see trends in smokers though. New smokers will smoke as much as possible. You start to slow down after the newness is gone. Then you get what most people become, the 1 bowl a day or 3 bowls a week. Boredom also plays a big role. When you get bored your first answer is, I'll pack a bowl and kill time (that is if video games are not around or not feeling up to it).

most of the times i just cant be bothered to pack a bowl.. cos wen i smoke its just boring, me and the hookah. i guess it would be a bit better once my new pc arrives and i hav it in my room...

malta but its not that bad. the water doesnt foam that much tho tongue.gif but im still a bit concerned about that weird taste of the water...could it be a rusty hose? here most hookah bars just wash their hoses and stick em right on, they dont leave em to dry.

To me there is nothing more relaxing than a good bowl pack after a long day of school. However some days I'm not able to smoke and on those days i don't feel any urge to light the hookah. Actually I have noticed that lately I've been smoking a little to much, to the point where I don't enjoy it when i do smoke.

I think a day with out hookah could do us all a little good.

Probably a rusty hose. Or it could be the fact that a stronger tobacco flavor is lingering in them and that is the funky taste you have. Double Apple is one of these flavors, it never seems to go away with just a water rinse.

I do this, I have some time off coming and I just know i'm going to smoke like a chimney. OTOH I take beaks whenever I have a cold or flu until the congestion is gone.

Not to really criticize people here but if anyone on this forum smokes atleast once every other day. Then I'd definately call it an "addiction". The reason this "addiction" is easy to overcome is because of the very small amount of nicotine invovled. 0.5% percent of nicotine per 50gram boxes is extremely small compared to a pack of cigarettes.

Take a look at this page: http://www.trytostop.org/more_info/other-t...co-products.asp

You'll find the nicotine amounts in some main cigarette brands. The comparison is really a big differece. HOWEVER!

I can't find the article; but this doctor wrote about shisha compared to cigarettes and exclaimed that taking over 60 puffs of a shisha bowl (can then) compare to cigarettes. So I'd be careful at how long you spend on each session and how often you actually smoke a bowl. For me smoking about 2-3 times a day at a good 30-40 puffs per session. I'd say I'm killing myself faster then a baby being strapped with a nicotine patch daily.

I use to smoke almost once on a daily basis for close to a year.

Don't have much time these days so only smoke once a week; either Friday or Saturday nights. Don't really feel the urge to smoke during the weekdays. In fact, I wanted to smoke or had the urge to smoke more when I use to do it on a daily basis but when I don't do it as often, I lose that urge. Don't know why. Edited by Gaara

Thats kind of weird saying "your all addicted if you smoke more then once every other day but its really easy to overcome." How often you do something does not determine whether something is an addiction or not. Your mention of physical dependency related to hookah may be true, and I'm sure there are many people who are actually addicted to hookah (as aposed to addicted in quotes), but their addiction probably is mostly psychological.

I have a Qatari friend who used to dive for pearls in Qatar when he was a kid. He could hold his breath for a very long time at a stretch. When he turned 14 he started doing shisha occasionally and after some time he could only hold his breath effectively for about half the length of time. A little anecdote.

Directly after a smoking session I don't feel quite as physically able as I usually do when I run or bicycle as far as breathing is concerned. This is only temporary and wears off very quickly.

I only smoke shisha once a week or once every two weeks. Edited by Estariol

I'm curious, to all of you people that smoke at least once a day, how do you feel your lungs are affected? Have you noticed a change in your breathing over time?

I use to smoke once almost every day for a while back then. You don't notice any change in breathing unless it's been years of daily use.

It's an addiction, however just a very small addiction. The amount of nicotine being put in your body is, as we know, very small. Now the truth here is based on each persons body. We can't do a scan and I'm not going to ask everyone individually, but this is about tolerance. The Amount you smoke and how much tolerance you have will all depend on how well you can overcome that "Addiction" or the nicotine, either way. Here's an example...

There was once a time in which I actually felt that "addiction urge" really happen to me. It was when I had smoked consecutive sessions, that's about 2 times a day for a week. After the weeked passed, I decided to stop for the fact that I felt I was hurting my body really badly. Next day, I had that urge. It was expressed through anger mainly. Everyone around me felt I was an asshole that day, but we all know....that's the "urge" talking. Lucky for me, I built my tolerance those next few days. Holding down that urge, suffering the anger and finally. Earning respect for my bodies tolerance.

To all of you who smoke once every other day. Me saying that's an addiction, it is. But those of you who feel otherwise, your body just has a good tolerance.

As was said earlier by someone else, I don't smoke a whole lot because of the clean up process. The thought of having to take it out, set it up, and then take it all apart and clean it is what limits my smoking. So as far as my personal hookah goes, I may smoke out of it once or twice a week.

But I also go throught phases, There will be times where I smoke alot, like once a day. But for the most part a couple times a week.

Your example doesnt really do anything but show us why you think that anyone who smokes is addicted, because you think if you get addicted everyone must get addicted. Quite simply no one can ask the question "how many times do you do this a day" and judgeing only that answer say if your addicted or not (unless that answer is "too much") . If you could then you could tell me, how many doses of anything within what time frame qualifies you as addicted. If someone has 3 cigarettes over the course of 3 months is he addicted? Is once every other day addicted? What about the people who have been smokeing only on weekends for the past 5 years, are they definatly un-addicted?
