Household vs Dedicated Foil?

Recommended Posts

Hey guy's.

I have been searching throughout the forum looking at the opinons of
everyone in regards to the subject or using foil vs Screen's.

So far i haven't been too impressed with using the screeen so am
thinking of using foil instead. However i am a bit concerned with using
standard kitchen foil over the proper dedicated foil available for
hookah's?

From what i can see most of you who are using foil seem to be using
standard household stuff, but is this worse for you than using the
proper foil?

What's the difference between the two?

Peace ... Dawg

Working with the screens takes a little practice, but once you get it right for the specific ma'asell brand, you'll never go back to foil.

household foil is toxic when placed into direct contact with prolonged heat.  doesn't hurt you when you cook with it but when inhaling it is not a happy thing.  Like most unhappy things its not going to put you in the ground tonight, but if you used it every day it will have detrimental effects.  please just use the hookah foils, besides they are already precut.

I'm stickin with screens.  They're reuseable and resonably inexpenceive in proportion to the times used.  Besides, an excess of aluminum in the body can cause alzheimer's.

I've been using foil for a real long time and I'm looking for an alternative. I tried those screen, they're absolutely rancid, no smoke and you have charcoal spilling through the GIANT holes. I'm sure, rather then having to order the precut foils, that there's a household version of that foil some where out there. Maybe the cheaper ones? I don't know, but I need to find out for a more convenient way to smoke. The best would be to get the ceramic bowl with the ceramic cover, but I don't have 30 something US to spend on it. Anyways, my 2 cents,Jon
The difference is household has a lining on one side of it that makes
it shiny. Hookah foils dont have them. As far as which one is safer I
dont know.
the kind I use (social smoke) has a shiny side, and its thinner than
reg. foil. From what I hear, household foil has chemicals on it to make
it nonstick

O.k. Today i thought i'd give in. So i packed my bowl with some Al Fakher Apple and covered this with some foil.

WOW!!!!!

That's all i can say. What a smoke i had. Smoke was thick and White
with a taste like Apple Pie.  Compared to using a screen this was
a vaste improvement.

I agree completely with mush....really the secret with screens is just using a little more heat than you would with foil since the holes in the screen are bigger and farther apart...
I get gorgeous clouds of white, thick, flavorful smoke with my screen, it just took some practice!

Thought i'd revive this previous post. What is the consensus on using houshold foil, and what makes hookah foil any different?

Cool idea.
The hookah foils are supposed to be uncoated. Household foils are supposed to have some sort of coating on them, perhaps to keep food from sticking as badly, not sure.
I have noticed nasty tastes coming of some off brand foils before. But I use a screen now so it's a moot point.

Thought I'd throw in some URLs regarding the aluminium foil - Alzheimer's Disease connection. These do not represent my opinion on aluminium foil use with hookahs (I use both screens and foil, depending on what's closest at hand. As always, Your Mileage May Vary. http://www.alzheimers.org.uk/Facts_about_d...ntia/Risk_facto rs/info_aluminium.htm http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/ewh-semt/water-eau/...nk-potab/alumin um-aluminium_e.htmlhttp://www.alzscot.org/pages/info/aluminium.htm

Its all in the coals. Heat control is the key and practice makes perfect.
Be prepared to burn a bowl or two, but I suggest starting with a few chunks of coal add some until you get the smoke you like, if it starts to burn, remove some, lift the screen, make sure nothing is on fire, repeat. I know that doesn't help much really, but its how i got it right. I use bulk natural coal that i have to break up into chunks myself. But its probably just as easy with finger coals or quick lites. Brak them into smller pieces and start experimenting. Not recomended when you have friends over for a party mind you.
Also keep in mind different ma'asells will require different levels of heat. Nakhla and HH require less heat, AF and Romman require a little more. You'll get the hang of it after a short while.
